Question Kool Blue air filter or K & N air filter

Hello,
Has anyone used a Kool Blue air filter. What are the advantages or disadvantages to using Kool blue or K & N air filter.

Will it affect smog emission requirements.

Thank you.

air filter wont hurt your smog test as long as its clean
got a link on this other filter??
cant go wrong with a K&N- little touches like the bolt holes for cover go thru the gasket- not around it, = better seal under high suction like full throttle with removed resonator box~
res box also has zero effect on smog test- guaranteed passes CA test with no questions - because they cant see it!- what they cant see they dont care about
(except disconnected actual smog equip ON the engine)

How often do you need to clean the K & N air filter.
I have seen K & N air filters for Acura, and Honda's sell for around 44 dollars.
OEM Acura and Honda is about 30 dollars.

K&N says every 50,000 Miles to clean re-oil and install-
thats based on when it reaches the flow of a brand new aftermarket filter--its time to clean the K&N!!

total life expected from filter before throw away is 1 MILLION miles!
OE filter maybe 20k and goes in the landfill

smart K&N users clean it every year or 2 for max performance and crud catching ability.
the kit for clean and re-oil is 10 bucks, and does 5 services

Does a K & N let in more dirt particles, since a greater volume of air goes through.
Also, will a cleaning at 25,000 miles be okay. Since it is recommended for 50K miles service and clean.

Thank you.

K & N oem drop in filter

Just remember the trade-off on a K&N is increased engine wear and intake system cleaning.

Any problems with intake ...

K&N filters let more air through and, while they do an excellent job of filtering some particles, others are allowed through due to design. Think about it; they claim more horsepower...their filters have no more filtering area...they suggest horsepower gains...this means more air is getting through the filter...hence more dirt is getting through.

There are any number of forums on performance to discuss the trade-off involved with K&N filters. The worst problems seem to be throttle body and airflow sensor issues due to contamination from materials the K&N lets through. However, at Bob the Oil Guy there are a number of threads that discuss oil analysis results that suggest increased en=gine wear after K&N use.

It is inherent that an oiled gauze filter will allow some larger particles and quite a few more smaller particle through. The whole oil as a magnet thing is bunk, as it's range of "attraction" is far smaller than the opening in the gauze it is "guarding".

thats why K&N uses oil on its guaze to capture small stuff

the time between cleaning is based on testing against standard paper filter, when K&N flow is reduced to that of new paper filter = time to clean

actual road use, most find every year or 2 to be excellent
and we now have a report of every 7500 miles,,

hey the $10-15 kit does the clean and reoil 5 times, so you choose how many years its going to last~
