Trying to TroubleShoot Transmission problem
hoping someone had similiar experince and can point me in right direction. The TL has 130K miles and starts and runs fine BUT....
The only issue that is that sometimes it gets stuck in a gear. I was told by the mechanic that it could be the transmission or a neutral switch. But i replaced the Neutral Switch and it still gets stuck in high RPM's and changes gear abruptly. The shifter moves and shifts just fine.
anyone had similiar exp? thanks for any insight you can provide and pointing me to solve this problem. obviously it seems like a trans problem, but trying to get specific without taking it to a high priced mechanic AGAIN!
thank alot

what gear specifically? When was the last time a ATF drain and fill was done? Make sure you use Honda/Acura ATF-DW1

tahnks for the reply. well i took it to a mechanic and he changed neutral switch and also changed the trans oil. this was 3 months ago when the problems started... its automatic, it gets stuck on higher gears RPM's

Did he use Acura /Honda fluid only? Or just some generic brand of ATF. The 2nd gen TL has a notoriously bad transmission so it could be on its way out. You can try and take apart some solenoids and clean them.

3x3 drain and fill.
Drain fluid, fill, drain fluid, fill, drain fluid, fill.
2G is know for transmission problems like Thoi said. Try what he recommended on the solenoids.
It sounds like it's on it's way out. If you want to keep the car, get an Av6 (Accord) transmission and swap it into the TL...

You need to replace your external transmission filter (about the size of a soda can - just below the battery). Also clean and inspect your solenoids and possibly your pressure switches. These are all external to your transmission and there's lots of info on here about it. Do you have a check engine light on?

thanks everyone...
truth is i dont know what type of fluid he used, he definetly didnt do the 3x3...
i try those other options...
can you guys give me a very rough estimate of what it would cost $$ to replace the tranny on it, Flipster mentioned I could use a Accord V6 tranmission (correct.. any other specifications?). Any idea of costs? I am in New York, near the Bronx (plenty of mechanics and junk yards)
thanks
