Intermittent VSA, !, abs lights on

Like the title stated, it doesn't stay on all the time. I could start the car with it on and after a while driving they'll turn off. Then later they'll come back on. I haven't had time to go to a tire shop who could read abs codes so I just did the paper clip method (jumper pins 4 and 9 on obd2) and read the flashes. The results were codes 51 and 53 which are Motor stuck on and Motor lock. Hopefully I won't have to replace the VSA modulator cause that isn't cheap unless I can get one at the local scrap yard but all I've seen are the base TL I have the Type S which has a different unit. I would think if it's shot the codes would stay on. Well any help on this would be appreciated, I think I might have to get myself a multimeter and check some relays too. Thanks in advance!

Check all of the associated wiring and connections. Could be something simple causing the intermittent fault. Maybe a short or bad ground ? Try a different relay.

Are you experiencing any actual problems while driving other than the warning lamps ?

Only problems is lack of tcs and abs when the lights are on. Otherwise it runs like a champ. It started right before my tranny went, I had it rebuilt and up til about 2 weeks ago would stay on all the time. Now it comes and goes. I'll check the wiring and such and see what I can come up with. Thanks!

Best possible scenario is that you have a loose ABS Sensor perhaps they unplugged it when they removed the axles to lower the trans.. Get the codes for the ABS if possible (Requires a special Honda tool).

Honda will try to rip you off to scan the codes but if your lucky get to a suspension shop and ask if they can read ABS Codes only (Different from OBDII Code reader but uses the same socket)..

With some luck they might have a generic reader and will charge cheap for it.

I checked the relays and plugs and they all were good. However I decided to check the codes again and this time I got a third code 72 which is modulator unit failure. I did a search on here before but most also had wheel speed sensor codes as well so I guess i'll try my salvage yard and see if they can locate one for me. In the meantime I'll go to a shop down the street and have him pull the codes and see if his scanner matches the 51, 53, and 72 that I got from using the paperclip method. I also check the abs plugs as well. Thanks!

Yeah, try to verify the codes. Sometimes stored codes need to be cleared and then rechecked afterwards for the current fault within the system.

I just went through this a couple weeks ago, 51 and 53 were because the pump motor was open circuit. Replaced the whole unit from the junk yard for $80. It is very easy to replace. When the light comes on, pull the relay and measure resistance from the output circuit to ground. Should be under 1 ohm. If it is above that, double check the ground at the motor, if that is good, you need the pump assembly.
