I think it's time.. What are my options.

What I feared the most and what stopped me from finishing modding the car might just happen. Tranny failure. My CEL and TCS light went on a couple months ago, didn't think anything of it. Pulled the clock fuse and reset everything. Just yesterday both came back on at the same time but now CEL is on only. Got the CEL scanned and sure enough, P0740 TCC was the problem. My tranny shifts smooth as always though, never had a problem, only prob I've had was an engine mount gone bad making it seem like its the trans jerking but nope. So what do you guys think I should do?

Sell the car *private sell
Or
Trade the car in and get something nice.

Last but not least swap in an 06-07 accord trans when my tranny does fail.

I really do not want to go that route as I don't wanna put anymore money into the car.

OG trans @ 176k and counting as this is my daily.
Haven't flushed my fluid but I think it's best not to.

The only thing that kills me about the car is the gas mileage. I drive mostly city and gass ads up to 4-500$ a month for me. I work 5 days out the week.

If I can do a 6spd swap on the cheap ill do that but I just don't see myself putting money into the car anymore besides regular Maintenance and has

Seems odd.. I do all week with 350 bucks... Perhaps you work very far? I do like 20 miles to work and back and some other-side trips..

Cant tell you 6 speedo is cheapo.. At least not with the LSD CL-S Trans. You can always do the Accord 6 Speedo swap at the cost of no LSD < But the trans is widely available on ebay for around 500-600 bucks.

500-600 is reasonable but labor costs might kill me.

Sucks too cause my birthday is tmmrw. Just my luck huh

Haven't flushed my fluid but I think it's best not to.

The CEL code indicates a potential problem within the Lock-up Control System. First off, make sure that there are no other codes or running issues.

So the car has 176k on the original tranny ???? Was the factory recall completed ? How does the fluid look and smell.....any residue ? Is it's level ok ? No slipping or odd shifting at all, huh ?

Yeah, I agree with not wanting to do a flush......but consider the simple DIY of draining and refilling with Honda DW1 fluid. Worn, burnt and dirty fluid is recommended to be replaced at 15k intervals with our problematic tranny's. Check out the "DIY" sticky and search similar threads for info.

Some other things you could do are change the inline AT filter and inspect the lock-up control solenoids. Sometimes the valve screen will tend to clog and restrict flow. What have ya got to lose, a clean tranny is a happier tranny !!

I haven't had time to check the fluid or anything else but I'll prob check tmmrw since I'm gonna change my oil.

There were no other codes that popped up when I got it scanned. I've been watching the rpm when it's shifting and there's no struggles or fluttering.

When changing oil, consider doing a single drain & fill of the tranny fluid at the same time. About 3 qts. DW1.

Turns out I pulled the tranny dip stick and barely any fluid was on it. Poured some Acura ATF fluid my friend had and well.. The car surprisingly drives smoother. Along with the oil change and fresh oil I'm sure that helped also. Pulled the clock fuse so hopefully the CEL doesn't pop up again.

Do you guys have the same pressure switches and redline fluid swaps that save the 3G guys? If so, do that. I wouldn't dump the car that quick and to be honest...if you do a 6MT swap, your mileage will likely go down because you'll rev higher than the auto. Because fun.

Hey tOny3, if you're going to keep the car....a tranny drain & fill would be a good place to start. Nothing to be afraid of ! If anything, there may be a concern as to why the fluid's level was low. Check for signs of possible leaks. How much fluid did you add ?

Bad luck, never speak too soon. CEL came right back on as I accelerated lightly passing up a car. Rpm when to redline and dropped. Guess this really is it, I'm considering my options at this point. Weird though cause normal driving the gears shift smooth but when I get on the gas that's when probs come in

Sorry not sure why its double posting the videos.

Look closely at 7-10 secs

Look closely at 4-7 secs

So, ya have not considered replacing the tranny with one from a '06>'07 Honda Accord ???

For less than $2000 installed, ya could get a lot more life out of your TL. + (No new car payments)
