How often to change trans fluid
Hi, I am the new owner of a 2000 Acura 3.2. the car is a one owner with 192000 miles that has been meticulously maintained at the acura dealer
and is in great shape. the trans was replaced by the dealer in 2015 at 165000 miles. It functions fine although it shifts a little hard when cold but I understand this is normal based on the threads I have read. I have searched and found the procedures for the "3x3" but I have not seen a schedule for how often. Based on the maintenance records I don't think the fluid has been changed in the last 3 years. Assuming I should do it now ? then how often after? Note the previous owner paid 6K for the transmission based on records. Quite an expense. Anything else besides the trans I should keep an eye on? thanks in advance for any advice. chew |
I would do a 3 X 3 change now. Then you know you have good fluid in the trans. Then at every oil change, I would do one drain on the trans. and replace with 3 quarts.
This is what I did when I first got my used TL and have been doing since. |
Thanks for the advice. I will do what you suggest.

Yeah I change my Transfluid every year or 15000 km. I know that's sooner than the recommended interval, but with the problems these transmissions have at higher mileage, I'm not gonna risk it. Plus transfluid is very cheap at $11 Canadian a litre and changing the fluid is just as easy as doing an engine oil change so why not?

I drain and fill (1x3) every oil change, which is about every 9-12 months for me (~8000 miles). The fluid is usually dark red by then.

If you're doing extended OCI like Quinn mentioned, every oil change would be recommended.
Otherwise I'd recommend every other oil change. I don't recommend mixing or using racing type fluids. |
