How much should I sell my car for? ( All Cheap Mods)Pics and Farewell to the 2G Club

So I just got into a good school upstate (Binghamton School of Management) and am planning to buy another car (probably the 3g TL) so I need to to sell this car first.

It's an AM TL-P w/ Navi w/ about 130k miles. It isn't in the best condition cosmetically but engine and tranny are 100%. I have all (or almost all) of the cheap mods that are possible for the 2g TL. Yes, I'm a cheap person. So, what?

Mods

Performance
(performance mods are expensive )
AEM Short Ram Intake (polished)

Appearance/Others
Intake resonator and mid-muffler delete
3A 3.5 inch muffer tips
Type S Gauges with blue leds
Blue LED Sunroof,Cruise, TSC, Fogs Buttons
M3 Lip
Debadged "3.2TL"
35% tint all around
LED map (hyper white), dome (blue), license plate (hyper white), trunk (hyper white), courtesy (blue)
Cleared and blacked out headlights
Fog Light Mod
6k Lows 8k Fogs w/ switchbacks, red led rear turn signals and resistors
CL-S rims
HD front lip
Blue LED foot well lights (front)
Painted silver calipers (1 isn't painted because I couldn't take the wheel off at the time)
Tinted red part of taillights
Acura tire valve stems with keychain wrench

Work Done
Belt Tensioner done around May 2010
Seafoam, NGK Iridium Spark Plugs, Mobil 1 Syn. Oil done at 127k on 8/10
Both Drive belts and side motor mount changed 10/12

I bought the car in April of 2010 w/ 124k so I didn't even have it for that long. Never got any bad warning lights except a CEL when I seafoamed but it went away after ECU reset by pulling clock fuse. My tranny and ignition switch was changed at Paragon Acura at 99k on 3/22/08 so that is a great thing. And carfax is clean with no accidents but I think there has been a accident before because my headlight was messed up and I'm missing the front absorber and my thing that the absorber goes into is a little bent.

The Bad
Radio CD player doesn't work.
Navi doesn't work.
Suspension might be going soon.
Right side was side swept (before I bought it)
Rear bumper has a decent amount of scratches

Most Recent Pics
(YES I KNOW I NEED A DROP AND DROPS ARE EXPENSIVE) and car was VERY dirty when I took the pics. Was too cheap to get a car wash and there are no car washes around me.

Because my navi doesn't work, my clock doesn't work. That's why I have that ghetto clock there. And, I gotta take some night time pics cause the car looks a lot better at night.

I want to sell the car fast. Do you guys think that $6,500 is a good price or should I lower it for a faster sale? Car will come with stock rims and tires, intake, 6k and 10k HID fog bulbs, front bumper absorber, original speedometer, extra headlight with ballast and other random stuff.

And of course thanks to everyone in the 2G community who has helped me out with everything. I knew almost nothing about cars before I got this car and I learned so much on this forum. Whether I get a 3g TL or not, I will still come back to the 2G section to see if there's anything new. And if I do get a 3G, I hope there is a "01tl4tl" on the 3g side.

Maybe I missed something but was the timing belt replaced? Or did that come under "drive belts"?

$4,200 would get it sold. $6,500 sounds a bit aggressive for someone who wants to sell fast. Further, for $6,500, one might want a showroom near-as-perfect, stock car. Tint might be cool, but what percentage of Acuras do you see with tint? 1%?

Best of luck with it.

Yeah 6,500 is a little too much. I don't know if the timing belt has ever been replaced.

How about 6,000 neg. and try to get like $5k-5.5k for it. Or part it out and sell it for like $4,500 firm. That sounds decent right?

Do u know what's wrong with the navi? Can it be fixed? That's gonna be a huge turnoff.
No CD player is gonna be big too
Suspension work isn't gonna be cheap either
mid-muffler delete
It's gonna be loud for most buyers...another turnoff
Belt Tensioner done around May 2010
just the tensioner or the timing belt, water pump, etc.?

I agree with above. Maybe $4k

Condition is not great either. I'll be honest with you, I'd be surprised if it sold to a private party. Appearance is everything. The fact that there are so many things wrong would lead any normal person to believe there are many many more problems.

Honestly, I think you're better off driving it into the ground or try a dealer trade.

Oh and your mods will most likely hurt the value. As you said
all of the cheap mods
just make the car look cheaper.

I think if you got 4500 for the way it sits now with all the "MODS" you did, you should close your eyes and let it go, these cars are not worth much, plus yours is a TL-P with a broken navi and suspension work needed, so that automatically brings the price down a couple grand.

If you take all the mods off and fix the navi and suspension, you might be able to get around 5 for it

dont take this the wrong way, im just commenting like everyone else

CarMax will buy modified cars as/is... I was quoted $4500 as my car sat. I laughed and left. (Then my transmission went up 4 days later.. wow.) But if you want to sell, that's an easy way out.

are those the stock rims you got with them?

those are type-S rims...

if you're dumping it, you could consider either selling the type-s rims and put the stocks back on or trading my stockies for your type s

For what it's worth...I would never buy a car that's modded out. Those cars only appeal to teenagers or other modders = a small percent of the population. I would turn it back to stock and sell your mods off separately.

Plus if you need suspension work but yet your car is all modded out, it makes people wonder where your priorities are, which results in a lost potential buyer.

Damn the 2g TL is so sad. Tranny problems and the resale value is horrible. I've seen a lot of clean stock 2g TL's on cl that don't get sold for months even though they are well below kbb value. That's why I thought if a clean stock can't get sold, maybe I'll have better chances with a slightly modded one.

I do live in the city so there are a lot more teenagers or ghetto people who might be interested in the car. I'll put it up on craigslist and see what happens.

I hear and understand where you're coming from. I'm just saying you want that car to appeal to the widest audience as possible. I think selling it stock widens that audience.

agree with everyone else. i don't think someone would purchase a car knowing it was tampered with. what if they thought you messed something up but didn't admit it? what if someone doesn't like the tint on your tails? etc..

btw.. your front bumper has been repainted huh? let me tell you.. AM is so hard to match.

Thats cause I put the type-s speedometer in. Thats why I said mileage is roughly 130k.

And I'm not positive that my suspension needs work. I am getting the occasional clunk but it is very random on only certain small bumps. And mostly in the front. Could just be a ball joint. Ride is still good and when I push down on the car it is pretty stiff.

Up here in Canada 6k would be a fast sale. I'd price it at 5k Neg, and see what happens!

Sway bar links.

I'd say post it for sale for 5K or best offer. Maybe you'll get 4500 but probably closer to 4. You say you're cheap but you want to sell your car to get into a car payment? Does not compute. Since the powertrain is solid then drive it all through college. After you graduate buy the car you want.

Well its not really that I'm cheap. It's because I knew I wasn't going to keep this car. I fixed what I had to and did some mods to play around with it but nothing expensive because I saved that money for my next car that I will actually like. I had to pay for this car myself but now that I got into a good college, my parents are going to chip in to get me something better. I worked my ass off in school to get to where I am now.

And we Asians don't do car payments. We pay full in cash.

Well my HD lip is the only mod that is REALLY CHEAP. And I think I'll have better chances trying to sell it modded.

There are no 2G TL's on CL right now that are modded that are cheap. I did see a nice LGM with full 02-03 conversion, roof spoiler, rims, and dropped but he was selling it for like $8000.

However, there is a stock 03 TL-S with like 110k miles that looks pretty clean and needs a little TLC for $3800. And some clean stock TL's with lower miles selling for $5k. If you see the competition that I'm up against, you will also think it is better to hope that I find someone that appreciate my car buys it for a fair price instead of having to sell it for like $3k to beat the competition.

I wouldn't touch it at $4500.
The repainted bumper is very obvious and usually indicates a front end collision.
The indash would be a big depreciation, I'd suggest you goto a junk yard and replace the unit for $100 rather than taking a $500+ depreciation.
Replace your modded exhaust with the oem one from junk yard.
MoogEndlinks are $25/wheel, you probably just need 2.

Turning the car back to proper order would increase the value greatly

I hate to say it but, no one wants our cars anymore. Plus you probably paid twice as much as your trying to sell it. I'd rather just keep the car, work 1-2 months and just have 2 cars.

Yeah I did sell it. I got a few buyers. A lot of buyers for 4k but I didn't want to sell it for that low unless I had no choice. I am selling it to some guy for 4.6k without the rims, intake, and speedometer. Just waiting to get my G registered and ready until I can finally let this car go.

Maybe in Toronto, but not in NYC. I always check CL to see what my car is currently worth and I always see type-s going for 5k and one guy even went down to 3800 because it is that hard to sell these cars. Then right after I posted my car, some other guy posted his TL-S with lower mileage with a lip kit, TB/WP job done and not a single scratch stock for 6k neg. Theres no way I can compete with these guys.

jesus, cars are so much more expensive up here!

05 TL is 20k
01-03 TL is 10-13k

I guess no salt, low km's/small commutes and lots of garages and parades = $$$

I feel like carmax is a curse waiting to happen!

I went with my dad to our nearest carmax (about 2 hours away mind you) to get a price on my X5 and possibly look at this slick 06 S4 (If I got enough for the X5 that was). I had an offer in Albany of 40k for the bimmer, but that was about 4g less than bluebook and I wanted something in the 44/45k range for it. carmax said they'd take a look and since I really wanted the S4, I figured it was worth a shot.

anyways, got there, they offered me 41, which I probably should have taken but decided against and for shits and giggles I evaluated my TL...$2500! Not that I'd ever sell the TL, but I mean damn you'd think it'd be worth at least 3k!

anyways yeah, so the curse...was going to be driving a new ride soon after I dumped the X and instead I get into an accident with the TL! priority now is fixing the TL, and while I can't drive it (I can't but I shouldn't) I have to drive the X!

so now I have a broken (getting fixed) TL, and an X5 I can't sell! oh cruel world lol.

note: I'm not some spoiled kid or anything, I love the X but I can't do 70 bucks a week in gas...well I can, but if I'm going to then I want to spend that on something fun! like a big V8 in a tiny German 4door!
