How does out TL-S fare against the Lexus IS300 and others?

Having just taken delivery of my TL-S just 5 days ago, I'm still being very conservative with the car and the break in period.

But for those of you who have had the car longer, how much faster are we against the Lexus IS300?

Anyone had the chance to go head to head with one? What other cars are we capable of smoking and what cars are we neck and neck with? I can't wait till I can really start driving the car like she wants to be driven. . . But I have to force myself to behave for now. . .

I sappose each situation differs based on driver knowledge. I have seen some laime folks driving M's and CLK 430's - Dont mess with the V'8's- Chances are you will lose

As for the IS 300 - I would think you would win that based on H.P. Irecently took a 255 H.P. Maxima- Although I think the driver gave up at the end-

Most of all be careful. Go to a track. My personal opinion is this car is not a race car- it is "A REALLY FAST LUXURY CAR".

I suggest using search as we have argued and discussed this point on numerous occasions. The TL-S will smoke a IS auto or manual on a straightaway and the TL-S will get smoked in any kind of corners or manuvering.

Yeah, the IS300 is a weird animal. I never did understand why, relative to the competition, it has low horsepower and much higher fuel consumption. I mean, the sticker say 18city/23hwy. I do better than that in my 22 year old 375hp Z28- seriously.

Hopefully, they'll wise up. It's a pretty cool car (too small inside for me and my family, though).

Well T-ho, the I-6 used in the IS has been out since 1993 when it was introduced on the Toyota Aristo in Japan (the 1st gen GS 300). Used the the Supra in 94-98. One of the stongest engines ever built, with crazy modability.

The I-6 will be replaced by a 3.3 liter V-6. THe I-6 is getting old and emmisions will kill it.

IS300 is not too bad, handling is pretty decent, too.... acceleration is nice, but it doesn't pull as strong as TLS... believe it or not, it feels weak from rolling-60... with performance(summer) tires and RWD, IS300's driving wheels hook up really nice, and I have no doubt TLS owners who race against a IS300 would be shocked by how IS300 keeps up with them from 0-40km/h(approx), but once into high revs, it's Bye Bye IS300....

P.S. Got a chance to drove an IS300 SportCross today.... Was having fun doing Burn-Out... hehe... Brake-Torque works really well for IS300.....

EDIT: Forgot the mention, E-Shift on IS300 doesn't go below 2nd gear at stand still, weird.... either it's got some kind of "Winter Mode" that I didn't switch off, OR it's designed that way.....

Hi,
A lot of people speak by the number posted by the car and some speak from experiences. It all depends where you are racing and who you racing and how well of a driver you are. I ran with an is 300 before and it pulled on me. THe specs go in our favor but IT PULLED ON ME. What CAn i say. Going back to your question. IT all depends how well you drive and how well the other driver is. My best Opinion is just take it easy with the car and race when someone fvcks with you. Don't have to show people up all the time. TLS are not built for that.

WOW I didn't know that the IS300 used the same engine as the Supra. Do you know if the IS300 can take most of the same engine mods as the Supra? Never really looked into it, but it does seem promising.

Most of the mods for Supra(non-turbo) should be consider direct bolt-on, assume that there is enough space under the hood....

Stock Supra engine block is said to be able to handle 600+HP stock...

What Mr. Kuo said

There are 400-600+ hp IS 300s around. A lot of supercharger and turbocharger applications. Still waiting for the factory TRD blown version.

When the road is straight, you'll have no issue fending off the IS300. The IS however has much more mod potential.

Neck&neck: Well in the ballpark I think an Acura RS-X (0-1/4 mi), Buick Regal GS, '04 Chevy Impala SS, Nissan Maxima 3.5 auto, Infiniti G35 auto (0-1/4mi), Ford Mustang GT auto, Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, VW GTI 1.8T, BMW 330 Ci, Infiniti Q45 (0-1/4 mi), well-driven 5-speed Camaro/Firebird V6 with 3.42 limited slip rear (0-1/4mi), Mercedes AMG ML55, BMW X5 4.6i, and of course the CL-S auto. Again these are cars in the ballpark. Exact results may vary.
