Help! - Windshield Wipers Going Crazy

Hello -
Is anyone experiencing an issue with their wipers where sometimes they "slam" down too far on the windshield (sounds very annoying afterwhile)? I had Acura take a look at this, and was informed that the "scissor assembly" is bad and would have to be replaced. Is this something I can do on my own, or is this something that needs to be left up to the professionals? From what I am told, this has been a problem for Second Generation TL models.

P.S. They did adjust the blades, but because there is so much play with this the effect is pretty much still the same.

I was having the same problem. I am actually going to replace the part this weekend, but I have already taken apart things to find the defective part. It is really not that difficult, probably something you could do. If you done things like changing spark plugs, etc. on cars in the past then I would just do it yourself.

Hey,
Would you mind telling me how to go about taking everything apart? I am assuming everything's behind the black strip the wiper arms rest on. And how much did you pay for this "scissor assembly" part? Thanks for the feedback!

Out of curiosity, did your wipers also wipe to far across the windshield? Sometimes mine slam down on the cowl as you mentioned and other times they switch and the drivers side will slam into the a-pillar. It seems to get worse the faster I go. I even had it get stuck past the a-pillar once when I was on the highway.

Yes my car experiences the exact same thing. The faster you go the worse it is (sometimes). Looks like you need that scissor assembly as well. It makes me wonder why there isn't a TSB on this issue if it is such a common problem as the dealer indicated.

It would appear so. I'll try to call the dealer today to get a part number on that and let you know if emfrench hasn't responded by then...

Has anyone had any success with repairing the wiper assembly? Mine is getting to be unbearable and will probably look into repairing real soon. Thanks!

I fixed this problem myself. Purchased a used transmission (scissor) assembly from the junkyard about a year ago. Haven't had a problem since.
