HELP!!!! STRUGGLING With Oil Pump Removal - 1999 TL
Hello everyone,
I'm struggling with removing the oil pump on my 1999 Acura TL. I've followed the instructions in the manual - removed the timing belt, water pump, side engine mount, idler pulley, oil pan, etc and just about every bolt near the oil pump. I'm able to pry the bottom of the pump loose and separate the oil pump from the engine where it meets the oil pan about a half inch on the back of the engine and about <1/4 inch on the front of the engine but the thing just isn't breaking loose from the top of the pump. My question is - do I need to remove this other pulley (see photo) to get the oil pump off or should I just keep trying to walk it off? If I do need to remove it, how? There are two bolts (as far as I can tell) holding it on. I've removed them both and no dice. Any help would be greatly appreciated since this is getting a bit frustrating. Do I need to remove this tensioner?

Judging from the Accord 3.0 Instructions it doesn´t seem to be needed:

I didn´t say that.. I said "it doesn´t seem to be needed"..
The Tensioner IIRC is held on by 3 bolts.. 2 on the outside and 1 in the middle.. Did you read the link to the procedure? there is no need to remove the oil seal. Read the Link!

Skirmich!!! You are amazing. I already have the Acura TL service manual PDF and have read the procedure many times although what I didn't know was whether or not the auto-tensioner (what I'm pointing to in the picture) needed to be removed as well since the manual makes no mention of it. Your direction on there being three bolts holding the auto-tensioner on was what did it - the bolt in the middle is the one I missed. Once I removed the 8mm bold in the middle the auto-tensioner practically fell off the engine exposing a shiny - never exposed to the elements since the day the engine was put together brand new looking - 10mm bolt. In this case, the last bolt that holds the oil pump to the engine. Once I removed that shiny bolt the oil pump slid off with ease and yes, with the oil seal still in place as you mentioned and as is mentioned in the link you posted.
I really appreciate your help. Now I can set my ratchet drivers to the tighten position and put this car back together.

Thanks and Congrats! I never done an Oil Pump myself so I was scratching my head on this one...
This thread will help others in the same boat to find that missing bolt!
