Question Help!! Radio Code

I just had a remote start put in my car and during installation, they had to disconnect the battery. After I got in the car, I realized that I needed to re-enter the radio code. I bought the car used and after digging through my glove box, I cant find the code. The owners manual says I can get it from the dealer with the radio serial number. Somebody please tell me I dont have to rip out the radio just to get the serial number!! Help!!

if not yea you will have to pull the radio out

do a search next time, but search for a white sticker in your glovebox, all over in the trunk, under your fusebox lid in the passenger side area under your hood. the number will the 5 digits all less than or equal to 6 good luck

and if you cant find it there call up american honda/acura and find out all the dealers who have been in contact with your car and call them and ask for the code if all else fails either take out the radio and get the serial off the back or go to an acura dealership and if there really nice(really)theyll read the code for free otherwises theyll charge you anywhere from 25-80 bucks for it

p.s. if this is a 2002 or greater, maybe a 2001 not sure
just turn off the radio and then hold down 1 and 6 and then turn it on and it will show your serial

Thanks for your help fellas. Sorry for the unneeded thread. I just did a search and I guess others have asked this before. Im going out in the cold with a flashlight to search for this thing. I REALLY dont feel like pulling out the radio. BTW - this is a 2000TL so I dont think the 1-6 trick is going to work.

Ok, so I looked high and low looking for places that this code could be placed (from other threads I have read, it seems some dealers hide it in case this happens). No luck. Looks like Im pulling the radio for the serial number.

Can anyone lend me a hand on the process? (hidden clips, tricks) thanks

P.S. Armor All freezes solid at 15 degrees. It also splits the bottle. I just found that out. :wow:

I thought i was so lucky when i found my code in my trunk but it turned out the radio had been replaced and the code is changed acura is supposed to keep that on record but they didnt so i might get it done for free, and you dont think acura would check to make sure the radio is in a car? besides there is basically no market for stock headunits most thieves dont even take these out ive seen several stripped tl's almost always its just airbags and hids, sometimes seats but stock head unit is usually still there

you will NOT find the code anywhere in the car (unless the stereo was replaced).

Go to Acura Dealer, they will charge you 80 bux and give you the code. (no other choice, unless u want to pull out the stereo)

not true the dealership usually is the one who puts the code in some of those places (trunks, glovebox, under fusebox cover) so if and when you call they tell you to look there. I called up my local dealership and the first thing they told me was to check around the car for a white sticker with a 5 digit number

There are 2 screws a little bit behind and below the "ashtray/coinholder" you have to remove so the whole console comes out, ps, easier to pull out console if you put your keys in, dont start it, but put it in Neutral....that way you dont break the console pulling it out....

yah its a ***** to take out, took me 1hr and 30 min the first time....

oh yeah, when putting the console back in, its best to have a magnetic screwdriver, cuz when you put the screw in, its at an angle....

You might as well go aftermarket Head Unit now, since you have to take it out anyway???

good luck

I had to disconnect the battery on mine too. The code is on the right side of the console where in my case, the wood grain peice is. I popped it of and it was a little white sticker.

so wait..... the code to unlock the radio is on that white square... or is that just serial number to the radio? If I find that sticker, can I unlock my radio from that?

Also, my radio says ErrE.... I think it counted my inputs. Err1, Err2, Err3, Err4, Err5, and after 9 it's says ErrE. Do I need to cut the power to the radio again to reset the count? Are there any other codes I need to know? Navigation code? etc?

at 10 you have to leave your radio on for one hour, or just pull the radio fuse(open your right passenger side door and pull of the fuse box panel and pull the top right fuse out)or turn off your car battery for a couple mins and that should reset it

and also your radio code is a 5 digit number all the numbers will be 6 or under i.e. 12345 33421 45623 etc etc

your radio serial number stars with b...always i think not sure but ive had to find the serial in 3 acuras and they all started with B

let me be more clear after 10 attempts at entering the code it locks you out for one hour or until you pull a fuse or remove your car battery terminals for a while not sure how long on the battery but the fuse is easier

Its in the owners manual that you have 10 tries to get the code right. If it doesnt work, you have to leave the radio powered on (with err10 or whatever ) on it and it will reset. Id say pull the fuse.

FYI - I have a 2000TL and did what was mentioned below by pulling the side wood (real wood - originally part of the Amazon), and along the side of the radio was a 9 digit number that started with a b. From what I have read, this is the serial # of the radio. Now to see if I can coax my dealer to give me my unlock code. Can anyone out there get it if I supply the serial #?

your dealer will give it you no coaxing required just stop in, at least they should they may even give it over the phone but doubtful, but you should call and check anyway

Your right! I called and got no hassles.

So.... For those who do a search for the radio code on this forum:

Try looking under the right wood piece that runs along side the console. My serial # was located there. Call this # into your dealer and they will give you a 5 digit code.
