help need to know how much timing belt job cost at a dealer and at a good shop
so my friends going to check out a car 99 3.2 tl I just wanted to know how much the timing and waterpump cost are at a dealer? the seller is pretty firm on his price so maybe if we tell him the cost at a dealer he might lower the price the car has 220km one owner he has all recipts and asking $4900 and he told us timing has to be done and that parts are cheap and so on

the parts are about 400-500, labor is several HOURS at nearly $100 or more per hour at most shops- in the states it runs from 800 at private shops to 1300+ at dealerships
Plan on replacing all the pullies and belts on the job to do it right- 1500$
Oh and valve adjustment too, add $200 with main job

there is a big differance between a complete 105k miles service, and just replacing the timing belt and water pump
The 105 is a full fluid change and new spark plugs etc along with the belt
Im guessing the car for sale needs everything so thats the prices I stated-- based on ziners reports here

OK, I'll take a shot, but you might just call a local dealer and ask.
The job at an Acura dealer might run $1200-$1400. Might be a bit less at a Honda dealer.
I'd guess an independent shop might be $600-$800 with non OEM parts.
Buy OEM parts yourself and the required parts might run $275-$400. Then you need to find someone to install them.
Search timing belt in this forum for more info.
You say the car has 220km on it so I might guess the car is not located in the US. Outside the US prices might vary significantly.
Hope this helps

My brother-in-law and I just replaced the water pump and all the belts in my 02. It was a bit of a bear to do, but it can be done yourself if you have someone that knows a little bit about cars and you offer free beer and pizza...I believe my Acura dealership mentioned something along the $1400 price tag with a fluid flush. I paid $400 for everything from a guy on ebay that used OEM parts. I got some help from one of the members here, a DIY here, and the service manual. All and all, not the worst thing you can do, but my brother-in-law doesn't want anything to do with getting under my TL's hood again lol.

$1150 at my dealer in the DC/NoVA area (Pohanka). Replaced the belts, tensioners, water pump, and drained/filled the radiator. Not sure if it is the best deal or not, but seemed to be along the lines of what others have paid at the dealership.
