I'm sure it's been covered before, but does anyone have ideas for protection of the fog lights? Xpel has them, but you have to buy the whole kit, are their any other manufactures that make a protective coating??

Replace the glass lens with a lexan lens. Much tougher and stronger then the glass... cheap to do to.... just need some time to do the swap.

lexan lens, huh please explain because my driver side lens cracked and I would like to replace it.

Basically, the process is similar to clearing the headlights.... you have to heat up the silicone to seperate the lens.... pop out the glass, put in a lexan piece and re-seal the fogs. You should be able to get a sheet or piece of lexan at a hobby or craft shop....

Mine is cracked too, since Christmas. But since water cannot get inside, I decided to leave it until there is a cheaper way of fixing it. I'm thinking of those windshield glass repair kit.

I'm talking about hobby lexan... much tougher then the lenses we have on there now. Less like glass, so less likely to shatter.

One of the members did this.. I can't remember his screen name... but when his lens cracked he swapped in the lexan and so far no problems.

I just installed the xpel film on my fogs this evening. They were perfect after install. After driving only 10 minutes with fogs on they were bubbling and extremely hot to the touch. I have the xenon blue fog bulbs in and the temperature the emit might cause it, or its just not a good product.

crap this has recently happened to me, but a lot worse. The hole is practiacally in the middle of the driver side fog, so a lot of the chrome inside is peeling away as well, because of water getting in.. I called up acura they are like asking $305 cdn for 1 fog light assembly!!!

Im thinking of just changing the plastic lens into what some members have mentioned, the lexan, but since the chrome from inside is already peeling away, i dont think its worth the time.. Hopefully i can find one at a junkyard or something..

ps. Malibu1, this isnt under warrenty apparently. I was thinking the same thing u were

My fog lense took a hit from a rock which caused a pinhole on the outside surface but spread out in the inside. I immediately turned the HID's off when I noticed the water in my fogs. That would have sucked if I blew a HID bulb.

Anyway, a friend gave me some unused sheets of x-pel headlight kit so I cut them to size and installed them on to the glass.

Yes, i covered over the hole:o...but I was just in a rush and never got back to replacing it with Lexan (which I'm not too crazy about because they would probably pit like crazy from road debris)....no one notices the small hole anyway...especially with the HID's turned on:p Nevertheless, I'm not paying $169 or some crazy amount like that for a new housing

As for the bubbling....that never happened to me. I squeegeed them to death and allowed them dry for a while near my radiator (in the house) before I put them back on the car.


For all of you w/out protection on the lens....do it before the inevitable happens. It's not tempered glass or anything....just easily breakable glass

They still work... so I'll leave it alone... might look into the lexan...

YEAH 305 is waaaayyy too much... expically since I need 2.

Can someone give directions on how to do the Lexan Lens install? I just had my passenger side fog get hit by a rock.

Hey.. I think I have a fix should be able to get the lexan cut to fit and directions on how to change it for about $30.00 each plus freight. I will have before and after pictures next week. Let me know if there is any interest.

Both my fog lights had holes from rocks. Replaced them with lexan, came out great. Used the bake method in the oven to loosen the glass. The only problem was because my lenses already had holes when removing the old glass lenses they cracked and had to be taken out in pieces.
