my 2003 TL-p bounces off of 6900 -7000. if i shift at 6500 with ss it will shift by 6700 rpm for the best shift. as for a 99 it could be different.

is it really bad to take it up to 6700 on a TL-p? or even to 6900? i mean a type-s goes to like 7000 no prob and its the same tranny - it does have bigger cams. but would i risk blowing my engine takeing my TL-p to 6700? its well into the redzone that starts at 6250.

a type-s's red zone starts at a much higher rpm than the TL-p but the rev limiters are almost the same - around 7,000 rpm. TL-p redzone starts at 6250 rpm and the type-s is like around 7,000 rpm. im just a little worried about reving between 6250 and 6700 - i mean its all red zone in a TL-p. but i guess if u dont hit or go above the rev limiter than its all good.

TL-P rev limiter is lower than the TL-S. i know i have both and have hit them.
my TL-P hits the limiter around 6800 or so (almost never hit it) my TL-S hits it at 7200.

yea but shortly after the type -s's redline ends the rev limited starts right?
far into the tl-p's redzone is were it hits the rev limiter.
but i dont think i have anything to worry about

what rpm do you shift ur TL-P at? i do at like 6500 in ss and the delay is like 6700 so its just before the rev limiter. - do we lose power up there and if we do we make it up in the next gear right.

i baby my tl-p. i need it to last as a DD, (but put it for sale any way). i let the computer shift it at around 2500-3000 rpm. the tls- if i shift it in ss mode at 6600-6700 rpm, it will shift at that point which gives the most power, dynoed my car a few times and thats the peak whp, and you could make your tires chirp into second too (never tried in my tl-p).

iv chirped 2nd once or twice - 1 gear screams a lot. but i was going up hill foot to the floor. almost any speed in 1st gear it can chirp em pretty nice (gate shifting) - its not good for the tranny. but most to the time i am babying my car too - d5 at 3000 is norm what i drive.

i only have an intake - what do u think whp of a Tl-p is with an intake ? blah im so off topic lol. maybe talk more pm me idk. thanks

Back in the day (1979) I had a Mazda RX-3 (1973) that was modified and for the first time, I found the speed that the stripes on the highway blur into one solid line... 140mph or so...I think

TL-S: 130mph chasing a Mercedes E-320
1st gen RX-7: 125mph
1988 MR2SC: 145+ chasing a couple of bikes...

Empty highways all the time... late nights usually...

A long time ago,
On a freeway far away.........

Made yearly drives out the Oregon 84 and up to Spokane, from there to Montana and head south past Butte.
I would put my '68 LeMans at about 105 (it realllllly loved that speed) and go until I needed to find a gas station.

1968 Pontiac LeMans - Pegged the needle just past the speedo's 120 mark to keep even with an old POS Chevelle on I-205, then I floored it.
I have not idea how fast I was really going, but wasn't long before the Chev was quite a ways back. I came back to earth when I overheard my GF voice her displeasure at my actions. That and her fingernails were dug into the dashboard.

1979 MG Midget - 99 mph.
Arguably the dumbest thing I have ever done. Could've used the trunk as a paint shaker, and I wasn't sure if the cheesy ragtop would even stay attached. It did.
When I got back to about 25mph, the engine froze up & threw various and sundry parts out the side of the block. And I was late for work.

I hit the Rev Limiter for the first time in my TL-S. (It was around 7K something, or atleast high 6K's) For some reason, I have been accelerating slow, and just cruising at around 55 for the last 2 weeks.

So, last night I was riding around with a friend and decided to have a little of fun. Put it SS mode because my friend thought it was just absolutely amazing that you could shift it yourself. Anyways, I slowed down at a four way, then accelerated away. It shifts from 1st to 2nd by it self, so I guess I forgot it was in SS mode, and I gave it some gas. It sounded the usual smooth, sweet sound... and then WAAAAAAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWA. It was extremely loud and scared me half to death. I wasn't expecting it and I jumped. lol

Thats only about the 4th time I have ever used SS mode. Usually just let the computer do the shifting when I push my car.

Interesting experience though...

^ you get used to SS mode the more you use it, the only thing that takes some more time is learning when to downshift.
