and I have an '02 TL Type-S, should fourth step be ignored?

Lastly, does bringing the wiring harness from the TL transmission to the AV6 require any electrical work (splicing wires/soldering)? or will the wiring harness connect like plug n' play?

If you're going to keep the transmission fluid warmer and spin on filter setup from your TL, you're going to have to unbolt the warmer assembly while leaving all hoses attached to it before being able to drop the transmission. Once the transmission is out, you will unbolt the TL filter assembly and transfer it over to the AV6 transmission. When the AV6 transmission is back in the car, you will then bolt the fluid warmer back on.

There is no splicing / soldering involved when swapping over the wiring harness.

Good to go.
I will update upon completion.

Hey everyone.
Just got the my TL back from the shop. The swap went well and the car drives well. Gear changing is quicker and smoother than the old transmission. I was fortunate to get a hold of a transmission with low mileage. The transmission I bought was from a 2007 Honda Accord V6 with 99,000km.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread!

Does this also work with the TL Type S (TLS or TL-S)?

^ Yep it's actually easier on the TL-S because of the lack of PS Speed Sensor.

Hey Wasup
I am in need of some help. I just bought a 2007 AV6 transmission 68,000 from LKQ and its installed in the car now. I am getting code P1705 with the TL range sensor. I bought a new one hoping it would remove the code but nothing. Is there a specific way to calibrate it? Any suggestions? Just about every sensor has been switched. I really hope the transmission is not messed up

Please help

Thumbs up swap complete

AV6 is in and operating. I kept the av6 filter setup but switched the cooler on top of it SHIFTS SMOOTH AS SILK.
I replaced front and back motor mounts along with trans. mounts.
Only issue is while in gear there is a significant vibration but goes away when driving. Could it be cheap motor mounts that I installed?

^ Rebuilt is better But far more expensive.
If you can get your hands on a sub-100K unit it would be the best compromise. Always check the ATF on a used unit before buying:

Cherry Red/New ATF Smell = Weird (In most cases you wont find this and if you do its vary shady)
Strong Red/New ATF Smell = Good Trans
Black Red/ATF Smell = Not Good, you could bargain it.
Black/Burned ATF Smell = Skip it!

Hi All,

Looks like my 03 Acura TL is joining the ranks of the dearly departed.
Was hoping someone might have contact info for 03blackbeast.
I'm in the Indianapolis area and would love to use the same mechanic he had do his swap.
I sent him a PM 2 weeks ago, but sadly no reply.
I've talked to a few other mechanics that were unwilling to do the swap, still calling around in the hopes of finding somebody.
This seems to be pretty a pretty straightforward job, however its a bit outside my comfort zone to do solo, and i'd rather pay a qualified mechanic the $600 to do it right.

Thanks for any and all help.

You should replace the filter regardless...its a 10$ part...but good peace of mind...clean filter is always better.also it's much easier to do so out than in the car

Sorry, I was talking about the filter inside the transmission, right next to the clutches

You need a lot of specialty tools to open the case and you also need the service manual so you know where everything goes when its time to put it together. Its a huge hassle to open the case just to replace the internal filter. Once the case is open you might as well do a full rebuild because you did 80% of the work already...

If it was me, I would do a full rebuild or nothing.

Trans Range Switch - Question

Hi everyone!! I have been hanging out on these forums silently for a while now and figured this is a good time to speak up and say hello before I ask my question.

I am getting ready to do this swap as my 02 Type-S is starting to have TRA issues. I would like to be sure I am crystal on everything before I start to get my hands dirty.

-- When it comes to adjusting the rage switch how do I go about doing this? --

I have done mechanical work before but have not had to do anything like this. Working on a FWD vehicle is new to me.

Thanks in advance!!

Mark the location of the range switch mounting bolts on the sensor before taking it off the TL transmission and use the marks as a reference point when mounting it on the AV6 transmission.

Hello new to this. When I completed my av6 swap I took it out for a spin and everything was smooth. As it came to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear my D5 lights starts blinking and check engine light comes on. I scanned it and a p0780 code comes up as shift malfunction. I thought I had a bad shift solenoid on the AV6 transmission so I swapped over from the old one and im still having the same issue. My question is did I miss somethin? or did I get a faulty transmission? Please help!!

Got the transmission installed, replaced rearmain seal, axle seals, TC seal, new solenoids, new transmission filter ( i kept the old AV6 transmission filter setup). Been driving for 100 miles now and everything seem good, shift very smooth. Thank you very much for the great DIY guys, I saved myself 700-1000 in labor.

Waiting for the transmission to come

LKQ trnsmission came in

Side to side swapping out parts

Installing new transmission

New transmission on custom jack

Installing transmission

Top view of engine and transmission

Everything are back together

All four wheels on ground and ready for test drive

After test drove

Was everything literally a plug and play after you finished you didn't have to do anything like reset anything? You just turned the key and go?

Pretty much everything plug and play, the only I noticed on my vehicle right now is hestitation when engine is cold, seem like from second to third. After couple minutes when engine warm up then vehicl shift fine. I'm going to double check all my work just to make sure all the vacuum lines and plugs are in correctly.

I'm having an issue with not wanting to shift out of 2nd but I think I just got a bad transmission. When you changed the filter on the AV6 transmission did the oil come out clean or was it dirty?. I think that's the problem with what I got It wasn't a burnt smell but just dark red/black. But good job on your car man get some more life out of these beasts.

The filter and the oil on the AV6 was pretty dirty and very dark/black color.
So I've noticed on the vehicle when cold start the engine vehicle seem hestitation on first and second gear, tried to accelerating but the rpm seem not going pass 2500-3000 rpm. Once the car get moving then sfter that there was no issue what so ever.
One other things happened to me yesterday is that the tcs, cel came on while driving on the highway right after I decarb/throttle body cleaning ( took aiut the air inlet tube and sprayed the throttle body cleaning inside the throttle while engine is running and revs with the cable dtc p0740 came on after that.) I did clear it and just going to wait to see if the light come on again.
Does anyone know how to fix the hesitation on low gear 1st and 2nd when engine is cold ( after engine been sitting for a while). Thanks guys

Update!

So with the hesitation problem that I'm having right now. So today after work I decided to start up the car and let it idle for 5-8 minutes with the hesitation that I'd experienced this morning went away. At first the idle was rough and you can see the vibration from the engine but after few minute later the engine idle normal again and that's when i drove home from work and didn't feel any hesitation from 1st or 2nd gear like this morning. Can anyone help me out and tell me what's happened? Is it possible I got a clogged EGR valve or the EGR port in the IM?
