Fan in 1999 Acura TL under hood keeps blowing

This keeps blowing loudly for 5-10 minutes after car is shut off after a drive. It is not too hot here yet in Austin.

You can see in the picture attached that this is the fan I am referring to. Is it normal for this to keep blowing up to 5 to 7 minutes after I shut the car off?

There could be a few reasons why this is occurring, here are a few:

1. low coolant
2. air in the cooling system
3. a leaking water pump causing low coolant
4. a faulty temperature sensor

Thanks for the reply. I got a coolant flush only three months ago. I check my fluids twice a week - everything looks good. I also had work done on it Saturday and it was looked at for a while - no mention of any leaks. How can I test the air in the cooling system and faulty temperature sensor? The temp in my car on the dash is usually accurate. Is this a pressing issue in general?

If the temperature is accurate (doesn't fluctuate) then I wouldn't look any further in that area. The service manual has a troubleshooting table on page 10-19 that you could use to take make a proper diagnosis.

Any chance you found any other threads with others having the same problem? If not, please share your findings for those of us still around. :)

Thank you. It only occurs on hot days - 80+. It is "only" 72 degrees here in Austin today and it has not occurred. About to go check my coolant and water pump one more time, but based off the helpful google search you gave me, people say that as long as the fan does not blow for over 10 minutes, it's no cause for alarm. Cheers.

Check the main relay in the fuse box

My 99 was doing that until I replaced the temperature sending unit.

Note that I replaced mine because I accidentally broke it off and it fixed the issue incidentally - be sure to run the test first.

The part # they sell on RockAuto for our year is also incorrect. It fails the test above and makes your gauge look like the engine is critically overheating. I ended up just pulling a handful from the junkyard, and the first one I plugged in worked.
