Exterior Paint Advice

My 2003 TL-S is starting to show exterior paint problems. Specifically, my rear bumper's clear coat is beginning to flake (I was replaced and not an Acura original as I was bumped in 2008).
The autobody places I've gone to (on Long Island, NY) have all quoted about $900-$1000 to repaint.

Any recommendations on what to do?

you can get a brand new bumper painted for that price...

I'd do that if you're really concerned. If it was replaced before, can you go back to that same body shop? My body shop offers lifetime warranty on their repairs, does yours?

So the damage was so bad they replaced with non OEM part and you were the owner of the vehicle when this occurred? If so then do as Thoiboi states go back to shop most every shop warrants the original purchaser on the work performed.

So the body shop won’t do anything for me. Can I simply buff out/off the clear coat and just re-coat it?

It depends on how deep the paint has faded. If just the clearcoat came off and you still have a lot of base coat I think you should be able to just re clear it.
