EBC Greenstuff pads + Stock rotors... brake dust???
EBC Greenstuff pads + Stock rotors... brake dust???
I've read and read again people saying that EBC Greenstuff has low brake dust... I was under the impression low brake dust compared to stock pads. I must admit though that the braking power on these are definitely better than stock.
I got an AMAZING amount of brake dust with just about 400 miles (2 weeks of driving) after cleaning the wheels. Is this normal or is it just me
? The front are bad, the rears barely have any dust since they are barely used.

Yup... for me at least.
I noticed more brake dust as well. Not quite as much as you're getting be certainly noticable vs stock. It's kind of a pain but from what I've seen other places on the board the EBC Greens produce less dust then the other aftermarket options (Axxis, Hawk, etc).
I feel it's a fair trade though for the increased performance (real or perceived)
Hope this helps,
Joe

Well, looking at the EBC website... it doesnt tell you the exact composition of the pad, but it does say that the pad hardness is soft, which would most likely mean that its made out of organic material... same stuff that your stock pads has.... theres the answer.
If you want less brake dust try the red pads which are made of of ceramic.
The reason you have more brake dust in the front rather than the back is because its a front wheel drive car. On front wheel drive cars the braking is 75%-80% done by the front rotors.

I heard the first few hundred miles on Greenstuff will dust like crazy but after about 1000miles the amount of dust should reduce by a lot. Put a few hundred miles more on the pads and let us know.

Wow, if thats the case thats a lot of dust. I was going to use the Greenstuff pads but I wanted no dust and the Akebono ceramic pads have been great at doing that. Consider them next time you replace pads. They won't grip as well as the Greenstuff though but its better than stock.
Yeah I thought so too. A friend of mine with the same car does about the same driving as me has just as much brake dust as well. He put I think about 3000 miles on them so far... since in.
Ok, I will look into those... how much do the run about?

teh green stuff will produce dust durring break in but then settle down to about oem. they are the lowest brake dust of all teh high end performance pads. that is low. my axxis will do that in a day.
also if you ise tire foam (any thing like that) it acts like a magnet for teh dust (the overspray gets on the rim and as you drive it flings on to the rim

Yup - ceramic is the lowest for dust. I only used my EBC's for less than 5-10k miles and switched back out to ceramics (wagner) and my old OEM discs (turned). They're still going strong.
As I recall - ceramic pads are the OEM equipment.
(he he - I still have my EBC's and slotted rotors in the garage - with less than 5-10k miles on them)

I agree... the brake dust is crazy, but like many of you said, its a trade off for the good braking performance, which I guess I'll have to live with. I'm just worried in the winter, when I gotta keep my rims clean.
I think even if a car is dirty, if you keep the rims clean and the tires polished it makes the car appear cleaner on a whole. So I'm really going to have a bitch of a time in the winter.

wow, i would've expected better from the EBC pads, i have axxis and although i dont drive a whole lot and i dont brake hard they definitely give off less dust then that perhaps the akebono's will be my replacement pads

I am actually surprised with the above results - I have the EBC pads (Green ones) with Rotora Rotors and have seem a great reduction in brake dust as compared to the OEM setup - odd you have this result....
