Difference Between TL's(2nd Generation; 99-03) year-to-year-to-year-to-year...etc...

Okay, I asked this question in my "Concerned about Transmission Thread", but feel that I might get a better response posting the thread. I tryed to do a search for this and had no results. I have been whoring around on the forums now for some time and found a few interesting threads (Navi-to-DVD for example ). Anyways, to my point: What is the difference between the 2nd Generation TL's from year-to-year-to-year-to-year... I am starting to pick up on the TLs, I would love to have a comprehensive breakdown, but I know that sounds like alot. Obviously, they are the same generation so the main body legnth, height or identical throughout the 99-03 years (I think).

Well, enough beating around the bush; here is what the newbie Legend 11 knows:
*note*: please feel free to fill in and keep me posted as you like.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Acura TL 99
4 Speed transmission Only

Acura TL 00
5 Speed transmission Only

Acura TL 01
5 Speed transmission Only

Acura TL 02
5 Speed transmission Only
2002 year features the TL-S Model
-cleared out amber on tail lights

Acura TL 03
5 Speed transmission Only
2003 year features the TL-S Model
- cleared out amber on tail lights

Some appear to have spoilers and some don't
=-------------------------------------------------------------------=

AHHHHHHHHHH, I SUCK!! This is all I know and I am not 100% if my info is right, I mean
what are the differences, you know how the Legends (I know this is not the Legend forum)
have the L, LS, GS versions of the Legend? Well, do the TLs have anything like this??

Which years/packages have:
Navi's
Wood Grain interior
certain paint colors ( I want a white one and there seems to be a few shades; which year is what shade for example)
performance differences???
slight interior/exterior changes????
anything else you think I should know

I know I seem annoying at this point with these stupid pointless questions, I really, Really, REALLY, want to get a TL sooooo bad and I just don't want to regret my purchase; I want to get exactly the TL I want, so I apoligize if I am coming across like a complete jack@$$!! I would just appreciate any information on this beautiful car!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

02-03 TL-Premium comes in Burl Wood, just like the 99-01 TLs. 02-03 TL TypeS have exclusive Black Wood trim.

Also the TL-S have a sportier seats and headrest then the TL.

I also forgot to add these changes to 02-03 TL which include:
New Remote Security Controls
Air bag has a new "A" emblem instead of an imprint.
Memory Seats.
Redesign side mirrors with blue tint.

TypeS also has a better intake
3" intake instead of the 2.75" on TLP.

1999 - no side airbags, 4 speed tranny

2000 - added side airbags, 5 speed. Moved from PCMCIA HD based NAVI to DVD. Engine cover changed. Minor mechanical changes.

2001 - no change (i think).

2002 - Dual stage air bags. Pearl logo on wheel. Updated side view mirrors to reduce glare and wind noise. Redesigned face and updated rear. added 6-disc changer. New style wheels. Illuminated internal emergency trunk release added. Also avaliable in Type-S, giving sport perf seats, perf door panels, Type-S shift knob, added power (obviously), VSA full time traction system, suspension modifications. Models with black interior changed to bowling ball black wood trim. on type-s models only. 17" wheels with larger and slightly higher performing tires also on type-s.

2003 - no change, however On Star was offered on the NAVI models.

Damn, I spend way too much time here.

If i forgot anything, someone chime in.

Perforated Leather Seats on TypeS model

Just a little comment on that. All Type-S seats are perforated leather. I have a '02 and they have the perforated leather and the sportier headrests.

Hey guys, found this site:

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/re...ings&tab=4#rel

Is this pretty accurate as far as the year-to-year-to-year is concerned?

Can you do BOTH Height AND Tile adjustments on TL-S's headrest, or just height only ?

I highly doubt the 2002 slight redesign had 500 changes. The "over 200" figure value I posted was from Acura.com when the 2002 TL came out and if you check out the parts specs, there isn't 500 difference parts between 2001 and 2002.

#Redesign head light also use HID Xenon headlamps in addition to the new shape ?
Acura TL starting from 1999 had Xenon gas filled HID. So you are wrong if you think Acura started using HID from 2002 up.

#Thicker rear swaybar ?
I have helped replaced the swaybar on the 2003 TLS and 1999-2001 TLP to aftermarket brand, both swaybars are hollow and I don't see any difference in it thickness, but I never really thought of measuring the thickness either but I doubt it was thicker.

I did however forget to mention that the TLS has better turning radius.

# Acura released a supplement parts manual for 2002 TL, the answer could come
from that manual if any member has one.

# you are correct, I have retracted this statement soon after I posted it.

#I should said larger diameter - based on the 2003 CL pamphlet, unless
the TLS uses a different rear swaybar.

I did however forget to mention that the TLS has better turning radius.
# I believe the TLS has a wider turning radius than TLP due to the wider tire.

BTW,

I wouldn't be surprised if the TL-S had different sway-bars than the TL-P, only because the Type S is supposed to have a "sport tuned suspension". I'm pretty sure the shocks/springs are different on the Type S, I don't know if the sways are any different though.

There are a bunch of small changes in the 2003 TLs that are hard to notice from 2002 to 2003. The perforated leather door inserts in the Type S models is one thing. On-Star for the NAVI models is another. I'm trying to remember some of the other minor things, but I can't remember at this point ... You can do a search and probably find most of it. This thread gets posted every once in awhile so there's been quite a few of them.

I'm pretty sure that the TL-P has a much better turning radius than the TL-S. Edmunds.com rates the TL-P turning radius as 36.8, while they rate the TL-S turning radius as 39.7! .. I can personally attest to the number of times I couldn't make a full U-Turn because of the large turning radius on the TL-S. I've hit a few curbs that way and almost gotten into accidents because I had to backup and people behind me were making U-turns ...

Just for comparison's sake, the 2003 Acura MDX has a turning radius of 37.2 ft, the '03 CL-S, 39.4 ft ... '03 CL-P, 37.4 ft ... '03 RSX is 38.1ft, and the '03 RL is 36.1ft ...

That puts the TL-S as acura's car with the largest turning radius for '03.

The TL-S does not have wider tires then the TL-P. The TL-P comes with 16x6.5 tires while the TL-S comes with 17x6.5 tires.........it's not wider. Also the TL-S comes with low profile tires so there is no real increase in overal radius of the tires+rims. If wider turning radius was due to the wider tires.........then the CL-S (17x7) would have a wider radius turn then the TLS but it doesn't.

1999-2001 TL headrest can only adjust their height, 2002-2002 TLP can adjust height and tilt plus it's a little bigger headrest then the 1999-2001. TL-S can only adjust height.

## Thanks for the info on the headrest, I like the tilt adustment a lot. TLS
does has wider tires than TLP, 215/50/17 vs 205/60/16, their RIM width
are the same. If the wider radius turn is not caused by tire width, could
it be caused by quicker steering between TLS and TLP.
