Could it be an electrical problem the transmission is not shifting?

The same old question here, the transmission in my 2002 tl is not shifting from 1st to 2nd, but when I enge in the tronic shifting, it works fine! I noticed a hard shift between the 2nd and 3rd gear but i can go on shifting smoothly till the fifth. I checked the fluid and it was fine. The TCS light and engine light are now on. I was washing my car today and when i finished and started running the car i had this problem right away. Could it be an electrical problem because of some water getting under the hood and the transmission is still fine?

you ckd the fluid at 15 minutes freeway drive warm? between the dots?
color and smell was good- red fluid- no burnt sugar smell? reallllly???? hmmmm

have you done any fluid change to see what the drain plug looks like?
its magnetic for a reason

SS/tronic mode uses a higher `line pressure`- it will force a weak shift to happen and
keep you going for a while longer

What codes are you getting- parts stores will scan for free (except Ca.)
those will help us

It is possible for a selenoid wiring to get wet or have bad connection somewhere
Have you ckd the battery cables? any crud at terminal end = crud inside cable causes all sorts of problems
Recent ziner reports of how cable looked good on the end- or a litle crud on end,,then cut open the cable to find is was eaten away inside!!

Negative/Ground cables are really important too
bad signal from any sensor due to voltage issues can trigger false codes and bad running

do you get any slipping at shifts? -rpm goes up but gear wont engage until you lift off the gas?
thats a real problem

Problem just started after washing the car? Always go to last work performed. Gotta be careful about getting water in the engine bay. Ask me how I know.

hey guys, thanks a lot for your replies and special thanks to 01tl4tl.

So, here is what I did. I restarted the computer by taking off the battery cables and taking off the navi and clock fuses. surprisingly , the transimssion worked fine after that. It was my mistake not to check the engine light codes before doing that. Anyway, the transmission fluid was contamindated, although I drove 10k since I changed it, I ended up changing it. There was also corrosion in the positive battery end, i took care of that as well. The transmission shifts super fine and better than before. I drove about 80 miles mostly on highways since I created this thread. I did 100 mph and it was rocking. I cannot feel anything wrong with the transmission. I am lost here S:
