Acura TL overheating

My 2003 Acura TL has been overheating lately. I've had this same problem at the end of last summer. If I keep my car in park with the AC on for say 10 min it overheats. It even overheats when I drive without the AC after like 40 min of driving. For some reason it never happens over the winter. What should be checked and what causes a car to overheat? Thank you

Could be a number of things but I'd first check for debris in front of the radiator, the radiator itself could be clogged, your fans could be faulty, or your thermostat

Thanks for responding, how long should it take for the fan to start up or does it always run? Also when the AC is on should the fan be on? I want to see if my fan is turning on. I think there are two fans right? Also I changed my coolant about 2 months ago thinking that would fix my problem but I didn't do a good job because the anti freeE is really dark in color. When I tried replacing the coolant all I did was use a turkey baster to suck it out the resivor, so this time I'm going to drain it the correct way. Would this cause overheating? Thank you

per your description of using turkey baster to remove coolant and noticing it a darker color, that could have been your clue right there!

the above poster mentioned a few things, including the radiator. the radiator could be clogged from rust and would over heat the car and have a discoloration in coolant

The driver side fan is the radiator fan, the passenger side fan is the AC condenser fan.
The AC condenser fan should come on when you turn on the AC.
The radiator fan turns on as needed.

Like mentioned, the easy thing to check is for debris between the condenser and radiator, including caked on dust/dirt. Just remove the two bolts holding on the radiator and separate the two. You will have enough clearance to reach your hand down there and remove the leaves. Then, using a hose on a FAN setting, spray both from in-between - you'll be surprised by the amount of mud that comes out. Don't be afraid of getting the fans wet; rain does that too.

So long as you have no air in the cooling system it's ok. Make sure your overflow reservoir is filled to the correct level.

I had to replace my radiator fan after 15 years since it was not always starting.

Another cheap $6 replacement is the radiator cap; you will overheat if it is not working properly.

Hello:
I am having a similar problem on my 99tl. The radiator fan never comes on when thee car gets up to temp. I can drive for an hour some times before the temp moves from the normal position. Then it goes to mid way. On occasion it will go to 3/4 for a short time and back to normal if I am able to maintain speed. If I put the a/c on both fans come on.

I have replaced everything I can think of ( thermostat, fan, fan switch(twice), temp sensor, relays, radiator cap, coolant) except the fan control module. I haven't replaced that because I don't know where it is located.

Any information or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I literally had the exact same problem. I would suggest getting your radiator pressure tested if nothing else seems to solve it. I said screw it, and bought a new CSF all aluminum radiator (more expensive than most) and now the cooling is 10x's better. I went this route because the radiator in my car was the original and had so much debris in it. Also, when I took of the top radiator hose off, the neck of the radiator was rusted and very brittle.
