Buying a used 2000 TL, Help? Suggestions?

Hello everyone! I'm a new registree to the site.

Can those of you with 2000 TLs give me a brief run down of any week points to look for in that model when buying a used one. I'm looking at dealers and private sellers, both. Dealers offer them with extended warrantees (especially if certified) but as we all know they do charge more, sometimes way too much.

Low mileage models range in price from $23500 to $27000 based on talking to dealers and private sellers at this time.

All info or ideas would be very welcome.
Thanks.

Many ppl have had problems with rattling and such. Also, quite a few have had some tranny problems.

I am one of the few who have not had those problems... except for a minor rattling from the cluster gauge.

I have approx. 23K miles on it.... but still running strong.
Wanna buy it??

BTW, I noticed you're in LA. Is that Los Angeles, CA? Or Louisiana?? If Los Angeles, I think some members are trying to have a meet soon( go to the TL Meet Forum). Maybe you can meet them and ask them in person.

2000 TL have the "Engine Check Light" problem that's caused by the software bugs in the ECU computer...

Your Engine Check Light will pop up due to misfire. Sometimes the TCS will quit working (which is okay cuz the TCS works like $hit anyways) But!!! It will give you trouble start during both the winter and the summer......

So, beware of that.....

I got that problem and it's a BEECH..........

Good luck and hopefully you can enjoy your new car.

So far so good on mine. Bought it this spring used also. My moonroof is rattling, annoying, still not fixed right the first time. Aside from this, no other problems.

I just bought a 2000 Firepepper Red with 42,000 miles -- I paid $19,500 I bought it from Alabama ... Actually found it on eBay and it didn't sell on there and I went down and got it.

I found out today when the second owner bought it (I'm 3rd - first was a 1 year 15k lease) it was a certified car.

I love it

2000 TL

At 24,000 miles (40,000 kms) my transmission blew. I was the original owner and without any warning I heard a mettalic souding pop while I was driving. I never drove the car hard ever. Within the next half hour after stopping I came out to find oil dripping off the frame. I took the car to the dealer immediately, and found that the entire underside of the car was covered in tranny fuid, and there was none showing on the stick. The dealership didn't know what was wrong, tried replacing front axel seal, leak still persisted, then they replaced a cv shaft, but the leak still was there. They then ordered a transmission which took about 8 weeks to come in. I got no support from Acura Canada, but the dealer was good enough to give me a loaner, but after week 6 of waiting I finally traded the car for a new 2002 TL. The dealer treated me fairly, gave me top book for my car, and sold the new TL at his invoice. I am glad I went this route because this will be the least expensive new car I ever bought.
