Broken ground wire
Ok so I just got done doing a tb cleaning and channging my oil. While I had my intake duct removed from the tb I noticed a broken ground wire that bolts to the body and a bracket above the xternal trans filter. Anbody know what that ground wire is for? It was completely broke but I have not noticed any electric problems. I fixed it and havent really noticed any changes.

Its just what you say, a ground. Its just an additional motor/trans ground.

To provide more current flow to various sensors around that area on the tranny, for accurate readings.

acura makes a kit with all the extra ground wires
or make your own from auto parts store
there are a few if you look around
they are important as micro variances in voltage effect readings

extremist add grounds from alt, ps and eng to a main point on frame,,good solid extra grounds never hurt
weak grounds always hurt!

Ground cable gauge
Hi
I have an 1st gen Acura TSX, but I'm assuming that the braided engine ground cables are similar (enough). Any idea what gauge these factory ground cables are?

Probably about 4 or 6 gauge. When it comes to ground. You can get bigger: most people do what's called a "Big 3 Upgrade" where they replace existing ground with 0 gauge wires. Highly recommended!

Thank you! Any idea why these ground cables unsheathed? If I make my own, I would have put heat shrink over the top.

Welcome- you are in the wrong part of the forum for your car - this is 99-03 TL area
we can offer only basic help, but your section will have better info
There are several suppliers of upgrade ground wire kits and the DIY section for your car will have the info you need to make a new setup
Do not use covered wires on the special braided wires-
Do use covered wire for a real ground from alt to frame, battery to frame- ps pump to frame and trans case to frame, then engine/trans to body
See kit info for details

Honda leaves the bottom part of the main ground cable unsheathed on many cars. That is their recommended spot to make your last connection when jump starting a car. It's common for that point to corrode away to nothing, and it's not a great spot for a jumper connection in my opinion.
