Brake light is ON?

Hi guys,

I have 2001 TL with almost 60K miles on it. Now, I have 2 questions:

1) Looks like it only happens in the morning, that is...when I apply the brake, the light stays ON for about 1 min. But after I drive for about 10 minutes, then even though in SS or Non-SS mode, the brake light is NEVER on at all. So, what is the correct behavior? The brake light has to be ON when we apply the brake? If it has to be ON, I assume the light should be OFF the moment we release the brake, right? But in my case, the light brake stays ON for about 1 min when I first drive in the morning.

2) I feel a bit vibration on the steering wheel when I apply the brake to slow down the car after cruising with about 80 mph (for sure the ABS was not the one causing it). I feel it when the speedometer reaches about 60-70mph. Is it normal?

Thanks for any answers in advance

(1) That happened to me just a few weeks ago. I applied the brakes after I pulled over and had someone check my brake lights in the back of the car. Turns out 1 of the two light blubs on the top and 1 of the 2 or 3 on the left was burned out. So I guess the TL sensed that not all the lights are functioning correctly and is warning you to replace them. Went to the shop, replaced those 2 blubs for 15ish bucks.

(2) could be warped rotors... do a search in the 2nd gen forum, there are a lot of threads on this topic. Most people here have their rotors resurfaced/replaced and brake pads replaced by the dealer if its still under warrenty. Another method is to get new (and of course better) rotors and brake pads aka aftermarket.

hope that helps ya out!

Which brake light is it? The brake lamp light or the parking brake light?

If it is the parking brake light check your brake fluid, it is most likely low.

Well about your steering wheel shaking that is your rotors that ar warped. As for your brake light on in the morning it's your master cylinder cap. It's going bad and it's not holding pressure that well. Take your car to the dealer and they should cover it if not you'll just have to buy a new brake master cylinder cap. Let me know how it turns out.

Hmmm....I think I have to take a look again. I thought there's only 1 brake light indicator

If it is master cylinder cap, is it something that I have to fix ASAP? Because I am thinking of bringing in my car for at least the next 2 weeks for 60k check up. Thx.

No you don't have to fix it right away. I drove with it like that for about a month then finally had sometime off during the week to take my car in. So it will be fine. And about your brakes, i would honestly just install some cross drilled slotted and some axxis pads and you will be fine and that will fix your problem. If your interested i have a front set of rotors that i used for about2 months until i came across a big brake upgrade. If you are i'll even resurface the rotors for you and let them go for $80. Let me know

if it is the "BRAKE" light like the one that is on when the Parking Brake is on then you need Brake Fluid and the shaking with out a dout rotors

I checked again this morning. Yes, it is a "BRAKE" light that is ON as if the Parking Brake is ON. But it's interesting enough that it only happen early in the morning. After I drive for about 5 - 10 min, the issue is gone. Do you guys think all I need is add brake fluid?

Regarding the shaking...since my car is close to 60k already, it won't be covered under warranty, right? Could you guys tell me how much approx to have this rotor resurface? Is it something dangerous though if I don't fix it? Thank a million guys!

Question

I have the "Brakes" light on the dash coming "ON" for a minute or so and then disappearing for awhile. And same scenario keeps appearing many times during the driving. Brakes feel OK, no squeaking sounds yet.
I will check now the fluid level in the reservoir.
My question is: what else could be checked?
Please advise

Sometimes the damn brake sensor bulids up some mositure and this causes the temporary indiction of the light.

Or more likely:

its your cap or low fluid

I get this problem as well. I'm gonna get brake pads and maybe rotors replaced soon.

Same thing with the 2001 in our garage. Acura replaced the "brake fluid float and screen" under warranty.
