some autoparts stores sell headlight polishing pads.. its a brown box i think, and it comes with 4 or 5 pads and a backing plate.. u put it onto a drill and wet the headlight and polish it up. works great, ive cleaned a bunch of headlights with them. u can probly do both headlights with 1 pad

I polish my headlights with Meguiars PlastiX. It really brings out the clarity and shine as well. It comes in a white bottle and most auto parts store.

You beat me to the punch. I use PlastX and works very well. It not expensive and it's easy to use. Try some and you'll be happy you did.

It all depends if you just have a bit of weathering or if the plastic lenses are actually pitted. Either way, you are going to see a clouded lens when the low beams are on.

If PlastX didn't work after several tries, don't waste it any further and try using rubbing compound instead. What you want to do is remove the scratches first and also see if the clouding disappears. Also make sure to use a terry cloth towel as they have a bit more "bite". Using a Porter Cable DA polisher with the right pad also works wonders on restoring the clear lenses.

If this still fails, then you would have to go to the "wet sanding" route which is not for the faint of heart.

wow way to revive the dead tread- 2007!

there are several plastic lens polishing kits that work with a drill and foam ball plus plastic polish, 10 bucks complete kit

yes toothpaste is an excellent polish and scratch filler- make sure its not gritty stuff or thats its own danger
for the 5 bucks I prefer the right tool for the job~

Ya I have used the Meguires Plastic cleaner along with some rubbing/cleaning compounds. The key was using the drill and foam ball. It made a world of difference and you need to do it periodically.

used meguiar's plastX headlight restoration kit yesterday and it worked wonders!

I highly recommend anyone try that before doing the whole wed sanding technique.

Yeah, def try that before wet-sanding. I see a lot of people actually doing more harm than good to the headlights with the wet-sanding. Same thing with the headlight-kits - it may make it look shinier (buffed out) but there are tons of thin lines from the sandpaper included in the kit.

Well, it also depends on the condition of the headlights - but def just try Meguiar's Plastic X first - make sure you scrub it really hard if not using the drill + foam ball.

Did you do it by hand or with the yellow drill piece that comes in the kit?

try it with the yellow pad that comes in the kit, thats what makes the difference
