Everything i read seems to praise seafoam. Is it necessary? Is there anything bad about using it?

Its certainly a good idea considering the combustion byproducts that gather in our engines- any engine, my lawnmower runs better now!

The only downside is you should replace the vac line or at least snip the end- it swells in the seafoam during dip and remove method. Its simple to do

If you have an old engine with old seals, you may not want to apply it unless you are intend to replace the gaskets soon...

I have used it on all my cars (5 thus far) and can vouch for the benefits. The difference is minor and short lived however nothing can protect your motor better than not beating on with a lead foot and skipping on the 3000 mile fluid changes.

what exactly IS seafoam? BTW I'm guessing an old engine is about 130k and above?

Not true. I used it on my engine that had over 200k on it and it never leaked a drop!!

i noticed after i let it sit for about 15 min after i put it in the vacuum line and i take it for that 'spirited drive', when i floor it... the RPMs shoot to about 2.5k/3k in first gear, and the motor feels like its struggling really bad ... then a couple seconds later, it shoots a humongous cloud of smoke out and my RPMs shoot up like normal. I have about 81k on my TL... is that normal?

Yes- its the fun part of the job to most- smoke out the neighborhood then a hi rev heatup at 4000 and multi uses of vtec from low speed to say--60 and brake and back on throttle hard over and over till no more smoke-
the smoke is combo solvent burnoff and carbon and crud burnoff

You can use way more than 1/3 per area- read the directions online and on the can
In the gas tank- 1 oz per 1 gallon of fuel is maitenance dose every 5000 miles or so
2 oz per gal of fuel is heavy cleaner dose

Seafoam is the exact product used by shops with a machine. The machine taps into the fuel line, there is gas in a can- they add can of cleaner/solvent-seafoam in a different can, run engine 20 minutes, take for hotrod drive and give back to you. 100 dollars please

3 cans seafoam at 6 bucks per can- some places sell it in GALLONS
1 in the intake 1 in 1/4 tank gas 1 in the oil right before change

Old engine, for purpose of seafoam would be: 80 chevy 350, held together with prayer and has obvious valve ticking---but I seafoamed it anyway and it runs better!!
Pour in right down the carb and cleans off the oil that drips from the valve seals onto the piston tops.

All engines are subject to crud- thats why we change the oil and filter and do what we can to counter the gas

Seafoam also good for storing gas in cans, boats for winter, use in winter blend fuels to prevent water probs, lawnmowers and much more- Its like wd40- what dont it do!

cool.. i just thought id ask, since mikes '99 tl doesnt do it nearly as bad as mine. mine runs hard and the CEL starts flashing, then the big cloud of smoke blasts out of the exhaust and the CEL goes away.

i wouldnt use it in a poorly taken car of and or old car. my freind used some in his 91 integra and not only was black smoke soming out the back but what looked like a lot of solid black crud!! also white smoke coming out around the header gaskets. he did admit tho it ran better after he got new header gaskets. but we thought his car was gonna blow, the smoke took an hour to go away lol!

I just gave my car the SeaFoam treatment earlier this week! Thanks to the original SeaFoam post (with detailed explanation and pictures), the process was easy. Really the hardest part for me was trying to find a place to do the sea foam on the manifold vacuum... here in LA there's never a time or area that remote enough where I don't have constant traffic. So I just decided to suck it up and look like a idiot for 5 minutes when my car is going down the street blowing out massive white smoke while having all the cars around you look at you like you are a total idoit!

Regarding the black smoke on SeaFoaming really old cars... I thought that would be the best indication that Sea Foam actually works. The black smoke would be the result of the old carbon build up being freed and burned up.

o its a honda! (and ive done it to my ford expedition and it doesnt leak oil and if any thign were to it would be that!

In would not be afraid of using it even on an old beater. My buddy had an 85 honda with 250k miles on it. No problems with it really just did not pass smog. We seafoamed and installed new plugs and he passed. The smoke that came out was indeed very black and car is still running great.

I did it to my 87 honda accord when i had it, worked great, just remember you have to change the oil afterwards after about 2000 miles. you dont need that stuff much longer then that. anyway my car was at 265000 when i got rid of it, so yeah...i like it. i highly dont i would use it on my type s but thats just me.

Kris didn't you take the head off after you seafoamed your TL? I remember took apart their engine after seafoaming it, chances are it was probably you... I think they mentioned how much of a difference it made too.

HAHA not saying the honda is a beater but he never took care of the thing much and it still runs great so its a beater in that sense. I think it might outlive us all at this point.
