Anyone with close to 200k miles on thier 2nd GEN. TL?

Anyone with close to 200k miles on thier TL? What advice do you have to increase the longevity of our car?

fsttyms1 03-14-2015 11:09 PM

600k

As for advice, just keep up with regular maintenance, 3x3 drain fills for trans fluid yearly along with replace the spin on external filter and clean the trans solenoids. Motors are pretty much bulletproof

Skirmich 03-15-2015 12:18 AM

:agree:
211K here though..

MarcDavidoff 03-15-2015 06:42 AM

Just turned 180k yesterday

jra8858 03-15-2015 10:29 AM

227,000 miles. I'd like to just add to give your suspension a good look over to make sure everythings tight, and all your bushings look good. Also if you live anywhere that uses road salt make sure you're washing your underbody thouroughly to prevent nuissances like rust and corrosion issues.

kevinf41 03-15-2015 04:48 PM

203k here...just keep up the maintenance and you should get a lot more out of it.

00TL-P3.2 03-16-2015 08:05 AM

233k on mine

LAMike240 03-18-2015 02:46 PM

But, only ~50k on this transmission...

Yikes 03-19-2015 06:17 PM

215,100 miles here.

Just keep your fluids changed, use premium fuel, and keep up with general maintenance items and it will last you a long time.

I actually have a rattle at around 1250 RPMs when accelerating, I suspect the bearing in the tensioner for the A/C / alternator belt is starting to go.

musiclevelz5 03-19-2015 08:36 PM

99 TL has 277k. Original trans.

02 TL-P has 233k - rebuilt trans has 7k on it.

03 TL-S has 343k - rebuilt trans has 11 miles on it.

As with maintenance I pretty much follow the Acura maintenance guide in the manual. It works pretty good!

03 tls nc 03-20-2015 10:36 AM

03 tls with 265K Honda replaced trans at 80K in 06. trans filter and pressure sensors change yearly plus 3qts of trans fluid at every oil change(can feel the differnce every time)

Chojun 03-20-2015 02:11 PM

I have a '03 TL-P with 159K miles. Only about 8K per year now, but was up to almost 50K the first year I owned it (bought used Nov. '06).

Transmission rebuilt '11 at 96K miles.

I guess mine is still a baby compared to some of these in this thread :)

I'm at a tipping point, trying to decide if I want to keep it going or get a new car.

TLer trash 03-20-2015 06:29 PM

289,000 on my daughter's 00 tl. 07 accord trans installed at 255,000. Just keep up on the maintenance and repairs. Current trans the third, counting the original.

dak360 03-20-2015 06:59 PM

I just picked up a 2001 with 267k on it. Runs and drives fine but is leaking oil and power steering fluid.

Oh Sickest TL 03-20-2015 11:48 PM

my old 02 type s has 320,000kms on her, sold her to a friend, still on the OG tranny too LOL :what::thumbsup:

03tls214 03-21-2015 02:46 AM

212k

MrMoAcuraPar 03-21-2015 01:27 PM

231k & counting!

MikeekiM 03-21-2015 10:37 PM

Transmission is the only achilles heel that I fear...

Skirmich 03-21-2015 11:01 PM

^^ Go to the AV6 side man... Its greener on the other side.

ZigFrom95 03-24-2015 05:09 AM

201K last night. From what I understand, just make sure u do the regular maintenance, I am also just learning how far these can go. 2000 acura tl 3.2

jff468 03-24-2015 09:50 AM

ive got 303,570 on mine. only thing wrong with her is a small ticking sound coming from back side of motor. i suspect its a exhaust gasket but not sure:wish:

musiclevelz5 03-24-2015 11:44 AM

@jff468

Are you sure that's not your evaporative emissions solenoid? They are suppose to click constantly after the engine is warmed up and its located around the rear of the engine.

jcyoungman 03-26-2015 07:50 PM

376K miles and still going.
:toocool:

musiclevelz5 03-26-2015 07:53 PM

jc how many trans have you had to put in? did you finally go av6 route or 6mt? my 03 type s has 344k and on its 3rd trans, just rebuilt. its the original trans design but I am going AV6 when it fails again.

Raider_SPE 03-27-2015 09:26 AM

I am sitting at 150K on my 2003TLS.

I was not hit with any transmission issues and all other issues have been normal wear and tear (wheel bearings are my enemy right now).

Mine has started to rust at the rear quarter panels in the wheel wells, I would watch that area like a hawk.

BTW, anyone have any ideas to help slow this rust down, or will i just have to wait it out and eventually replace the entire quarter panel, If i keep it that long that is?

musiclevelz5 03-29-2015 10:22 AM

raider I would start saving up for an av6 swap or at the very least get the original trans rebuilt when it does fail. These trans have 100% failure rate and your at a perfect mileage for problems.

As for the rust, knocking it out early is always better. If it has the rubber guard in place along the wheel wells I would start by ripping that off. Thats a harbinger for water salt buildup and usually is the starting cause of rust in the rear. Find someone local that can cut the rust out and mold new metal in, paint it, etc. Or you can do a cheap job yourself but it likely will show unless you have good skills with bondo.

bruistopher 04-03-2015 08:42 AM

1999 TL-P 175K crew checking in.

I haven't been on here in awhile. But since I've had this car back in 2009 I've had to replace the transmission in 2012 and it's been good ever since. A minor rear end accident, chipping of the paint on the body and shocks & struts replacement that I need to do soon. Other than that, this TL is rocking.

Just ordered a new pair of OEM HID bulbs tho. Passenger side just blew out.

Incinerary 04-03-2015 10:23 AM

209k on my '02 TL-S and on original tranny. However I think the transmission is finally going to fail. If it does, I'll be doing the AV6 swap! Everything else about the car is perfect!!

musiclevelz5 04-03-2015 11:46 AM

Incinerary that's amazing your trans went that long! If you need any help with that swap hit me up. I am not too far of a drive and I love to help!

eTL01 04-03-2015 07:05 PM

150K 01 TL

I've just gotten my hands dirty and theres much things to learn/excited for.

I hope this baby lasts me a long time.

Incinerary 04-04-2015 11:57 PM

I appreciate the offer musiclevelz5!! I'll let you know if I need assistance!! I found this forum page to be very helpful!!

https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...n-swap-905115/

From what I understand, there's just some part swapping between the TL and AV6 transmissions as well as they recommend a fresh new transmission filter for the AV6. I'll start looking for an AV6 next weekend. Hopefully shouldn't be to hard to find a decent one.

But until then, have a Happy Easter!!

Chojun 04-06-2015 04:13 PM

Yeah I asked my mechanic if they could do the swap for me. They got a blank look on their face and started to drool a bit when I began to explain the bits and pieces that needed to come/go.

Maybe it's because I was wearing my work slacks/pressed shirt?

ndoghuntsville 04-08-2015 10:47 AM

02 TL-S 198,950. Cant wait to see the big 200k. 3rd tranny with 111k on it.

Timski 04-08-2015 08:18 PM
