Any recommendations on a good bluetooth adapter to stock stereo? Also video output
 

Anyone have a good recommendations or experience with a good bluetooth module for the factory stereo system? Also looking for a module that can hook up video to the navigation screen like a backup camera. One module to do both would be nice. Any feedback would be great.

Why not just by a double din stereo with camera features and a adapter that ties in with the stereo that gives you back steering wheel controls.. Alot of people say they lose the sub but I read a thread where everything still worked. Thats what I'm planning to do because my stock radio amp is on it's way out.

I couldn't agree more! there are several solutions if you want to install a double or even a single din (yeah, all that tech shrinks down nicely over the years) head unit. If you like the look of stock, I would like to comment that even Porsche owners eventually go with an aftermarket setup; just part of growing old :-)

Sub woofer: There is also a write up here for how to splice into the the line input for the sub woofer. You may note that some chose to splice in up front behind the head unit and others chose to go in the back close to the sub woofer amplifier. Unless you are planning to use a different amplifier, I find it easier to do it up front where you already have everything out (during the head unit install). This definitely makes a difference as the sub woofer IS an item that sets our cars apart from our CL counterparts.

I guess it is learning curve. I tried this and that. At end simple buy Sony head unit and give it to Best buy to install. Removed rear sit so guy charge me only 110$ whit connecting woofer. Can not be happier with that approach. See how in my tread people say me same. I spend 1 year trying different things till go right route. All my music is on flash drive in flac format and connected to usb port at sony head unit.

Give it to right guy to install. My sub work with aftermarket head unit.

As I wrote in my tread and I stay by it today - key for quality music, with same speakers, is DAC (digital to audio converter). Op want go with smartphone DAC and wireless connection. Inferior in start. DAC in new head unit will always be superior to some smartphone DAC. Like first there is not enough space for quality DAC in smart phone. I used same approach from car in my home audio system. CD reader failed at old Panasonic surround system. I bought Sony dvd player with USB port. Connected it to Panasonic (that is now basically amplifier) and everything work. There I use Flac on flash drive too, plus control it from my computer.

If someone want use phone for audio I think right way to go would be phone - external DAC (FiiO for 20-30$) - than analog input to stock head unit. Just to add here, so no confusion. Sony dvd player has digital output. It go to external FiiO DAC and than to Panasonic (now) integrated amplifier (because Panasonic receiver is broken and act just like amplifier) and than to speakers. Purpose of this post is to aware, who my interest, about external DAC. Definitely can be used in car audio.

Thanks for all the replies. Ive considered that but would really prefer to keep this stock. Plus how would that work if I have the stock navigation unit? Wouldnt I have to remove both radio and navigation? Might be to much of a hassle and reason why I wanted to just connect a bluetooth and camera input.

I really enjoy the look of the stock Radio Unit so I added aux by using -> amzn.to/2Iyjnji. After a while I decided to add bluetooth and decided to use -> amzn.to/2GHKE0O. Both of those combined work very well, as soon as the radio turns on, it automatically connects to my iPhone so I don't have to manually connect every time like other bluetooth adapters I've tried. They are both pretty simple to install.

Do you still recommend this install option? I'm considering the "GTA Pure BT with AUX" at $140 to keep it simple, and save the subwoofer.. Best Buy quoted me $60 for install.

It is exactly how my receiver look like, only my has, completely useless for me, CD player. So for 80$ and free installation you will have most modern DAC. I would remove rear sit so Best buy guy can charge less for connection to sub. Worked excellent for me. To explain I do believe that Best buy would charge for connecting to sub, so to lower price for it remove rear sit or make it lose so installation guy can just pull out it. I guess running to sub in such case would be 50$.

Notice this day you can go Sony head unit with FLAC capability for 80$ installed + sub connection expense (?????). So you should check at Best Buy, I give 99% chance that head in first link will work. It is DIN 1 and it will fit. Probably they want say that some rewairing should be done. Whatsoever you buy look for FLAC capability. CD is thing of past.

Once again, and you should google it. Any wireless connection is inferior to wired and DAC in head unit is better than DAC in phone by a mile. For my life it is case closed. As soon I decide I will hold some car it will get new head unit. It is 80$ this dais for 4X55W with FLAC capability and USB port. As I'm concerned case closed. It my happen say I sell Acura and someone do not want head unit for +200$ I will put old one back and use that Sony in next car or my pickup but it is highly unlikely.

I am fed up with the Philips BT cassette adapter. Don't care about a CD player or radio. All I want to do is stream from my Pixel 3, and do it without any wires for a quick grab to get out of the car. I am still happy with the system's sound quality (radio or CD), but the adapter static is unacceptable.

I will question Best Buy's tech about fitting one of their head units, and make sure they understand the subwoofer needs to be included. Thanks!

If I happen to listen to something where a wire will make a difference, AUX can be included. So, I should also look for a DAC and FLAC unit, if I replace the HU.

This need clarification here because at acurazine is misunderstanding about this. It is NOT that new head unit wold not be capable to connect to Acura sub. It is that guys from Best buy do not know do it. Here in Mpls I went to Best buy in Roseville and some latino that work there said to me right away that He can not connect sub to Sony head unit. I wasn't capable from hist talk to figure out is it fault of him or fault of Sony. Went to another Best buy in Blaine and guy there said me right away that He can make sub working for 100$ more. He charged me only 60$ more as I did removed rear sit. Even 100$ for working sub would worth every penny. When you buy head unit ask if it support FLAC as flac format is lossless. For streaming capability you should google for best head unit. I do not interest in that area.

I'll take those notes with me, and hope to keep it under about $200, which sounds possible.

Well I'm thinking about buying this Sony from link in post #14 for my pickup when is so cheap. As I said flash drive + this Sony head unit work excellent. However this head unit, per reviews, is not best for Bluetooth connection so who plan to go wireless should check something else.

The default Bluetooth codec SBC has a bitrate of about 70 kbps and generally sounds like crap. This is what Android phones uses when connected to most head units and Bluetooth headphones.
If you have a more recent head unit, it most likely supports AAC over Bluetooth which gives you 256 kbps AAC audio when paired with an iPhone.
If you have a head unit that supports aptX and an Android phone which also supports it, you'll get about 352 kbps.
Of course there will be some very minor degradation as the audio is not streamed directly but it's not something you will ever be able to hear in a running car.

If is Bluetooth default only 70 kbps it is useless like way to listen to music. This is obviously big problem with Bluetooth. It seem it make smaller your songs kbps.

The GTA BT and AUX car kit is a plug-and-play that goes directly into the existing head unit to keep all original connections, including the subwoofer. I remember once reading it plugs into the CD changer port, which I already have open. Going to order it for a $60 Best Buy install.

^^^ Again problem of DAC. Do this - find someone who has new head unit and use flash drive for music. Connect yours phone to audio jack of same head unit and listen music over yours phone. If sound is approximately same you are good to go with yours phone. But I doubt it as a quality DAC is minimum of size of a cigarettes pack. I did just it with my than new head unit. Listened over external audio jack and my phone DAC and than over flash drive over my head unit DAC. With yours connection you will use yours phone DAC. Good solution would be if you can output digital sound from yours phone and to some external DAC, FiiO or other (so is in my home system). It is even possible find some external DAC with amplifier capabilities. I'm not scared spend say 100$ for external DAC with amplifier as I can use it for years. It is not like going to casino.

Thanks for the search suggestions. I read about external DACs, and also learned that my Pixel 3 XL smartphone's USB C-to-3mm audio jack adapter cord includes DAC, in addition to any smartphone DAC I have.

I've decided to go for the GTA BT with AUX, fully installed at $200. If Bluetooth streaming is bad, I will use my phone's DAC adapter plugged into the AUX.. And, if that SQ needs improvement, I will purchase an external DAC for the AUX connection. If that's bad... I have to buy a new car!

I don't play stored media, only stream my Cloud storage. I had uploaded all my CDs to a free Google Play Music account, which I can stream unlimited and ad-free at my uploaded quality thru T-Mobile Music Freedom (uncounted data) feature. Unfortunately, I was unaware until now that FLAC was the preferred rip quality. Maybe I will redo ripping at some point to improve over my 256 bit rate MP3 upload quality.

So glad I went this route. *Very* happy with the BT sound quality. Only adjustment I made, was moving the phone mount down for a better BT connection to the new module.

Interior is much cleaner. No auxiliary power outlets needed to charge the phone, AUX and USB-C cords pull out from behind the ash tray, and the mic is almost invisible in the headliner above the rear view.

Years ago, I bought a blitzsafe device (https://www.blitzsafe.com/catalog/ho...1-dmx-v-1.html) for my old iPhone 4 that has a 30pin connector that served really well until I switched to an android phone..

then I started having some issue with those cheap converters (30pin to 3.5mm),

so I went ahead and bought this 30pin to BT dongle that looks promising so I could utilize what I have (blitzsafe).

For the time being I'm still researching what to do to get a double din that supports android auto and apple carplay..

Looks like the are so many different options (from the cheap chinese ones to decent name brand devices).
