Anti-freeze

I'm getting ready to do a radiator flush and fill on my 99TL. Is it OK to use conventional anti-freeze or do what the manual suggests and buy the honda anti-freeze?

I recommend the Honda/Acura antifreeze. It is produced specifically for our vehicles by Idemitsu. After all, you don't need much - the savings would be minimal.

However, if you are going to go with another product, do be sure that it is silicate-free and phosphate-free. Do buy the 50/50 premixed solution. It is made with demineralized water, which is very important. Tap water just isn't good stuff in a radiator. There are a variety of brands available, but do stick with a reputable one ... Prestone, Peak, etc. Make sure it meets JASO M325 (the appropriate standard). That information will be on the reverse side of the container.

walmart for good price!!
you can buy 50/50 premix or make it yourself with a gallon of purified water from grocery store or water place..
note: do premix! dont pour a bunch of coolant in the rad,, then water--thats a bad thing

ck the bottle- it must say APPROVED FOR ACURA or dont use it!!

or any honda car dealer for 2 gallons of premixed

Purified water is NOT the same as demineralized. Another term for demineralized is deionized. Don't buy spring water, purified water, etc. Better yet, buy premixed antifreeze and save yourself the trouble of buying two products and trying to mix them in the correct ratio. There isn't a cost savings to crafting your own blend.

the Water Mill machine near me has an extensive 7 part filtering of many types
ozone ion blacklight, reverse ozmosis yadayada

but for most of the country and the basic diy'r: spend the extra 8-10 bucks and buy the 2nd gallon of premix for ease of installation
Be sure to burp the system per owner book, and have heater core open-- set to HOT- so it drains out too

there is one drain on the radiator, and another important one on the rear of engine block
see diy section for help
