Another problem popped up on my TL HELP PLEASE!

Hey everyone, so yet another problem popped up on my TL-S and I was wondering if anyone had the same problem with a solution. When i start my car and its in idle the car has a ticking noise to it. If you are outside of my car you can definitely here it and when you accelerate you can hear the clicking noise get faster as you accelerate. Its been doing this for a month and honestly when I drive it, I don't see a difference at all. My mechanic said that it might that the valves are slightly misaligned but is okay to drive. Does anyone here know what it might be? Thanks in advance.

Yup sounds like Valves Misadjusted actually I did my Valve not so much ago just because of the sound that was getting louder..
But there is also a Clicking sound from the Gas Purge Solenoid that goes bad and "clicks" it can get LOUD! Check it out:

1) Locate your master cylinder.

2) Behind the master cyl cap there is a Solenoid with an "L" shape and 2 vacuum tubes coming out from it and a single connector.

3) Start the car go to the engine bay and put your hand on top of it.. Can you feel it "click" that match the REVs? If you can HEAR it click then its probably time to replace it, and it can be the source of your click "valve type" noise.

If it isn't noisy then its time for some valve adjustment!

Hope that helps!

Thank you Skirmich that does help me single out the problem and I can ask my mechanic about that. Too bad I have no idea about cars and how to fix them at all. Is this something that I can check myself or will I need to to apart something in my engine to check it?

Its pretty easy to check!

1.- Just pop the hood!
2.- Go where you must usually pour brake fluid (Master Cyl)
3.- Locate by sight the Solenoid (Its L shaped and its has 1 tube for each end) its held in place by a metal bracket. Just on top of the Power Booster (Rear big circle thing behind the Brake Fluid canister, Its black!)
4.- Start the car and it should click inside but it should not be audible.
5.- If you can feel the clicks and pin point the source of the sound to the Solenoid then its time to replace it! (It should click but it should not be heard).

If you cannot pin point the source of the clicking noise to the solenoid but if you go close to the engine it gets louder then its most probably the valves itself and that's not a hard job to do if you are mechanically inclined.. But if not then leave it to the Mechanics!

Thats easy enough and I think i can do that just to check if its the Solenoid or not. Thanks again! My mechanic said if it is the valves roughly it should be $200 plus parts, does that sound too expensive?

At 100 hour labor x hour sounds about right... It should not take longer than 2 hours tough.

And parts? There are no parts involved in Adjusting the Valves since he will not give you his feeler gauges... And all gaskets are re-usable (If he don't remove the TB from Manifold).. Myself I didn't replace anything.. My Adjusting cost total = 12 bucks (Feeler Gauges).

Oh wow $200 to $12 is a huge difference, I wish I could just drive down to San Diego and have you change it for me for a cheaper price than $200 LOL

Its fairly easy to be honest but it might look a little daunter if you haven't worked on engines before.. Basically your engine will look like this:

^Pic from the Internetz...

Hey at least he's not overpricing it! You should get a QUOTE from a Dealership for the laughs..

Shocks and Axles are not related by themselves so I cant think of anyone charging less for 3 different works

Good luck on That!
