Alarm going off after installing new battery
My 2003 TL has not been driven for months. I tried jumping it but the battery did not hold a charge, although the ignition lights did come on but would not start. Took the battery to Walmart to get tested and found out it was dead (swollen on the sides).
Bought a new battery but as soon as I got it connected the ALARM WENT OFF. I suspect this is the antitheft system engaging. I removed the horn relay fuse from the fuse box located in the hood (big black fuse) and then connected the battery. I then try to start the car but no power detected. I assume disabling the horn relay disabled the car?
My question is how do I stop the alarm from going off after connecting the new battery? I tried disabling with the key fob but no luck.
Thanks.

Try inserting the key and igniting the car real quick after you get the battery in. Turning the car on has turned the alarm off for me - but my experience with the alarm didn't include a batter change, so your mileage may vary.

So I connected the battery real quick and while the alarm was going off I tried cranking the car as you suggested but it did not start. While I was attempting to jump it with another car (with old battery), the ignition lights all came on but not enough power to crank up. So I can't explain why the car is now totally dead with a new battery installed. Cant figure this out.

That is real strange. Hopefully someone else here has experience with this.
Maybe let it sit without a battery for 10 minutes or so, then put the new one in and see if it goes off?
