bro it's only been 30 minutes..
The 2nd gen TL is 99-03
97 is a first gen TL.. probably will not work, I'd look into an Accord v6 (06-07) as a trans replacement

I know that some of the 97 came with a 3.2 liter and 4 speed trans same as the 99.. I found one from a 97 thats why I'm wondering if it will work.. Also is the accord trans a straight forward swap or is there anything else needed to do the swap.. all help is greatly appreciated

Ahh... you have a 99, that won't apply.
Looks like you need to look for another 99 TL tranny .

If I am not mistaken, the 4-Speed auto from the Gen 6 V6 Accords should work.

Not sure if anyone has even tried the 97 to 99 swap, but I'm pretty sure I've seen reports from folks who've done the swap from the Gen 6 V6 Accords. That said, something in the back of my brain is saying there was an update to the 4-Speed automatic done in 1999, so it might be only the 1999-2002 transmissions will work. If you call a bone yard they have an interchange manual and should be able to confirm if the Accord tranny will work.

You know what won't need a harness or ECU swap?
a 99 TL transmission
You seem to want to find the easiest possible solution so why not just look for a 99 TL transmission?

Honestly if you're having a hard time tracking a 99 TL transmission, then your best bet is to cut your losses and sell or scrap the TL for either another cheap 2nd gen with a working tranny (just change the fluid every year and your good) or accord or Camry if you want reliable transportation. Or upgrade to a clean 3rd gen TL if you have the money to spend.
Rebuilding or replacing that 4speed trans is too costly considering the age of the vehicle and the rarity of the 4speed, I'd rather spend that kind of money to upgrade to a newer used car, good luck.

What kind of mileage do you have on your 99? Most of the failures I've seen have been in the upper 100s to lower 200,000 miles. If the car has low miles and is in otherwise good shape, you could have it rebuilt but it ain't going to be cheap.
