6 speed vs A/T - cost wise

I didnt wanna hi jack any thread so i decided i would make a new one. If this has been discussed, i apologize and mods please delete. My tranny just died on me today and i was wondering what the cost is to do a 6 speed conversion. I know i wont get a exact figure but i will have an idea of what it will run me. I can do a swap with a used tranny with a warranty for 3 years for about 1500-1800 installed. If i do a 6 speed i think i wont find a shop that will do it without charging me alot on labor. I am just confused on what to do and was hoping someone could help me out. If someone could get me a list of what i need i would appreciate it. Ive seen in other threads but some things look incomplete.

it's not hard, just a lot of work. I paid $1200 for my transmission alone (CL-S) but I'm not sure how much others paid for theirs. You'll need misc parts here and there though. Clutch+flywheel is a couple hundred bucks. shifter cables are another $100. parking brake gear is about another $80-100. And if you're not a wiring genious, the richie harness (if he still makes them) for another $500. With that in mind, I don't think many shops will do this for less than $800-1000 in labor.

That doesnt sound too bad. I plan on keeping the car a real real long time and it has 146k on it and motor is strong. It is salvaged but i kept it due to the motor being strong. I knew the tranny would die and it was a matter of time but i dont mind doing the 6 speed as long as it doesnt go over like 2500-3000. I can do it slowly since i do have another car so time isnt a factor for me. I rather end the tranny worries on this car if i can under 3k.

I spent 3k in parts originally , then I bought a cls cluster for $100, cm fx300 kit for $1200.

assclown is probably right on the mark @ $800-$1000 for labor.

well after thinking about it i think i may go the a/t route since i would hate to drive a stick all the time. As much as i would love it, i would get tired of it very quickly. I did do a couple phone calls and so far the car is at aamco for a quote but was offered 1,600 by a shop in Sacramento (30-40Miles away) to pull out and rebuild and install. 6 month warranty only. Any ideas? i think just getting a used tranny is a bad idea with the reputation of these trannys. Any ideas on what would be a good way of fixing this tranny? Better if i pull it out and get it done or let them do it?

Paid 1300 for mine, 1 year unlimited. eBay. Should have tried another one out of Charlotte they said it had higher line pressures and a heavy duty torque converter? Did all the work my self. It's nice to work for a dealer.
Ehh.. the next one will be that one from Charlotte.

Well got my car back and they gave me a list of codes which were, P0700 - A/T system malfunction, P0740 - TC Clutch system failure, also they said my front wheel speed sensor was bad and told me that is not related to my transmission. The think i did not understand was i never had a check engine light on before or any problem. They wanted about 2700 to rebuild it so i told them ill pass. I found a shop in sac that said for 1600 they will install a new rebuilt transmission which is better updated and use honda fluid and if i brought him a sensor and transmission mounts if broken, he will take care of it all. He is including a 1 year warranty 12k miles. he said for additional 250 he will make it a 3 year 36k warranty. The real question i have now is should i use honda fluid again or use synthetic?

Honda has a new fluid we should use, DW-1 its way better

1600 sounds like a `lowball offer` to get you in the door,
once the trans is taken apart,,ohh... it needs several very expensive things not included in the estimate, Sir

keep cking around and ask the local ziners for help

I would go used Oddessy trans to be rid of most of the TL issue and still enjoy the auto trans

Just an update, price was fixed for 1750 out the door and today got a call and was told my front engine mount, and 2 transmission mounts were out. Parts were about 250 so now new total would be 2,000 if i agree. I knew 2 of my mounts were out and called around and price the shop gave me was about 10-15 bucks cheaper and all from acura. So i decided to go ahead since i would not be paying any extra labor. Hopefully this is it. first major expense since ive owned the car besides mods and the 105k service.
