2003 TL-S lurches forward at stop lights

Hi Everyone!

I just got a 2003 TL-S about a month ago with about 42,000 miles on it. The car was certified used from a local acura dealership in Atlanta. One annoying thing I have noticed is that when I am sitting at a stop light, after about 30 seconds of being fully stopped, the car will lurch forward a little bit. It almost seems like the car is shifting gears, but I have checked via Sport shift and when it happens the transmission is already in first gear.

My question is, is this normal? Or is it a sympton of a transmission problem, or something else? I also test drove another 2003 TL-S before buying this one and it did the same thing. I didn't notice it on mine until a few days after I bought it.

Thanks,

Gamble

i believe its ur ac fan...it does that when ur ac is on, the fan kicks in and will make the car jerk forward an inch. no biggie.

Thanks for the reply, but it also happens when it is cold outside and the A/C isn't on...

Is your AC on auto? If it is then that could be the reason even when it is cold.

Yes, I keep the temperature control in full-auto all of the time. Why would the A/C fan come on anyway though?

The fan comes on any way with or without the A/C fan. Just make sure you get used to holding down the brake

On full auto even in the winter time the AC runs to help dry the air to keep your windos from fogging up

This is the clutching-in of the A/C compressor and is totally normal. The A/C compressor and condenser dehumidify the air no matter what the temp is set on. If you have it on "Full Auto" it will cycle the compressor and when it cycles on is when it will sort of lurch forward.

BTW which dealer did you buy from?

mine does it too with the climate control off. a wise man once told me it was my torque converter unlocking, but i don't know if i still believe it. it's definitely not my A/C though. i can tell you that for a fact.

The wise man knew little about cars. The torque converter unlocks before you stop.

Most likely the computer threw in a few more rpm and you didnt have enough brake applied and thats what caused it.

ok, that makes sense to me seeing as i know relatively nothing about transmissions, but it still does it for me without the climate control on, or if it is on i rarely have the A/C on or have it in auto. so unfortunately that brings us back to the drawing board.

Like i said, Most likely the ECU jumped the rpm up for some reason (like the alternator cycling ) or that it saw teh rpm going to low so it was a quick makeup which caused it. Its a normal thing
