I also try to get people to use my part source, they are a little pricey compared to others, but the mileage is always super low, unit is always complete, undamaged, and the warranty they give me is unheard of in junkyards (3-6 months)

Just remember guys, never purchase sight unseen! If you are buying out of area, make sure they provide pics of everything, to make sure nothing is damaged. A $600 trans can very easily become a $1200 trans if there's a bunch of sensors broken.....

What is your part source for these transmissions (in case I need one in the near future)?

Place is called Ernie's Auto Parts, Harrison Township, Michigan

Not sure what warranty they give the public (probably 30 day), but they stand behind their sales, and make things right if they go south.

@Stephen00TL
NICE! i was concerned my RPMs were a bit high but wow in 5th @80 mph i can tap the gas and it's like the car wants to keep accelerating with ease...love these ratios. gas mileage seems to have stayed the same...i get my usual 23-25mpg.

i got my tranny from LKQ and they're pricey too!! i paid just under $900 for my 07 with 135k (i mentioned i had 06 earlier but read the receipt recently and it says 07) but LKQ included a 6 month parts warranty with it + my buddy who did the swap will match that warranty labor wise, but i'll prob buy him an 18 rack everytime i need any service on it lol

My gas mileage went up. I would only get about 250-260 miles out of a tank, now I get 300+. I paid 1000$ with 6 month warranty and it had right around 30k miles. The gearig is the best part about the swap, I would swap the transmission just for the gearing difference.

i was getting about 125-135 miles per 5 gallons so i guess mine's just about the same. what i usually do is i'll wait for my gas light comes on. then immediately get 5 gallons, then when gas light comes back on i do the math.

Will this swap work on a 1999 TL? And if so, will I need to change transmission ecm?
Thanks in advance!

It can be done but it's not worth it. The 99 were much more reliable so just get that one rebuilt by a reputable shop and keep the fluid changed.

You would have to change out your ECU from the 00-03 TL. If you kept your ECU, then you wouldn't have 5th gear. I am not an expert though so you would want to consult a honda/acura tranny expert on this one just to be safe!

Thanks for the responses! I have 125K on my original 5AT and it is still running strong. I figure if it ever does go out then I will be purchasing a 06-07 AV6 tranny.

For you TL guys - The accords 4th gear is 9% shorter than in the stock TL tranny! what a benefit for passing power!

Not to mention different harnesses. If you were Togo through that much trouble you might as well swap it to a manual

Instead of using an AV6 trans, I swapped in an 06 Oddy trans. My buddy charged me 300. Its only been a few hundred miles, but shifting nice and smooth. I got the trans for 750 with 80k on it. It was the first time he did this swap and he said this thread made it super easy.

There are a number of people that have done the odyssey swap as well as a swap from an 06 tl. I wonder if the gear ratios are shorter for 4th and fifth like the 06-07 Honda accord v6

I read another thread on here, and someone said 3rd and 4th are taller. I'm not sure tho.

range switch, 3rd , and 4th pressure switches were transfered from my old trans. honestly i can't tell the difference with the taller gears. seems like shift points and acceleration are the same. only difference is smoother shifting.

Besides the gear ratios being possibly different, is there any difference between the 06-07 AV6 transmission and the 06-07 Odyssey transmission?

The 06-07 Odyssey is part of the same generation as the 08-10 Odyssey...would the 08-10 transmission also work? It seems like it would be easier to find a low-mileage 08-10 Odyssey transmission.

Can someone clarify the Power Steering delete deal? I know doing this swap, you end up not using a Power Steering sensor. Is this the only Power Steering sensor on these vehicles? (Sorry I didn't find a parts diagram). In other words, will there be NO Power Steering once the swap is done??

part #15 is the power steering sensor thing that gets deleted (sorry for lack of better term lol)

i have no idea what it really does make the steering easier and more fluid. i'd imagine the rotation of the transmission parts regulate the flow of the power steering fluid depending on what speed the car is moving. without it, you still have power steering as the pump itself on the passenger side of the car isn't being removed...your steering is just stiffer/sportier.

You can't use a transmission past 06 from an honda odyssey. Somethig is different I can't remember what but It won't mate up- possibly bell housing. Basically you delete the power steering speed sensor so it is firmer. You still have power steering it's just firmer

No one is having CEL issues due to the different gear ratios? And does all the original computer hardware stay intact? I know several of you have done the swap but I'm afraid there will be computer/sensor issues with the different gear ratios...

No issues as long as you swap everythin I posted in this thread. Still uses the same computer for the car and works with little modification.

Is there a reason why you didn't re-use the switches from your TL trans or get new Acura switches? Are you having issues using the AV6 switches? I thought using Acura switches was part of the procedure...

Using the harness for the pressure switches is the procedure. You can run either model pressure switches I just got brand new ones for the accord v6 Transmission I got and there fine

my 03 tl-s is showing early signs of transmission failure. I'm glad i'm part of this forum, because i was a few clicks away from ordering a reman tl transmission for 1485 shipped with one year warranty. I'd rather go for a better tranny with out any known issues.

Hey guys Im back! I have been driving the TL S since Wed and so far, no issue's. Triptronic still works and it hauls ass. I got my tranny for 1100 shipped with a 6 month warranty and with 48k on it. AAA Auto Salvage was the company I bought the tranny from. If anyone needs this swap done in the Tri-State area, there is a shop called SMG in the Bronx, they are familiar with the swap and the work is warrantied. Contact me for the info. I am happy with the swap, now I need to do the motor mounts to do in the future, need to save up more money. Now I have a bearing noise coming from my tensioner pulley I feel, sounds like that. Is that a issue we have? Just wondering.

P.S.- I went 80 mph and I confirm the same thing, I am at 2500 rpm's.

Yea it is, I had no time or space to do it myself, not with school and work on my ass. I am anal when it comes to my cars, it needs to be perfect. 800 with you bringing all the stuff, I even had a cooler installed for double insurance, included.

If we worked for Acura, they would know so much since the fans always find the best repairs for issues.

Just ordered the motor mounts and solenoid, that ticking noise bothers the crap out of me, just have to figure out the noise which I think is coming from a pulley, it's weird because it didn't have it before the trans went, maybe because it sat for 3 weeks without driving it, idk

It's not difficult toget out it just takes a little time. It's not light it's well over 200lbs maybe even 300 and there is no easy way to grab it to lift it. If you do the swap you have to hae an engine hoist
