Wood steering wheel - stitching color

I picked up my 2007 RL Tech today and I'm going thru all the manual info, etc.

My car has the ebony interior and I ordered the wood steering wheel and wood shifter knob. All of the stiching on the door panels and seats is black. The stitching on the leather part of the steering wheel is light brown. The leather is ebony so I assume it is the right wheel. I just looks so odd to me with that brown stitching.

Can anyone confirm that this is correct? If it is, I may darken it with a black marker or something to match all the other stitching.

Unfortunately, the "wood" steering wheel that I paid $734 for is "wood look" which means it is really plastic. The thread color is gold. I was kind of shocked to see it too. I wonder if it can be dyed black?

That's the correct stitching for the ebony interior. Actually I like it. I have the parchment interior and my steering wheel stiching is brown also, but since my leather is a similar color I don't notice it much. A contrast is nice imho.

My taupe "wood" wheel has charcoal stitching (go figure). Although it doesn't match any other stitching in the car, I've gotten used to it (and grown to like the overall look).

If I had the ebony interior, I'd have to consider taking a sharpie to the stitching if I didn't like it after a while. At least you have the option to darken the stitching.

By the way, the wood wheel upgrade is the most satisfying upgrade I've done on my car.

Mine is the same (obviously) and if I hadn't read about the different color stitching here, I never would have noticed.

I think I am going to try to darken it. I don't think a Sharpie is the way to go because any ink that gets on the leather won't come off. I was thinking of black clothes dye...dabbing it with a Q-Tip. Then you should be able to wipe it off of the leather before it dries and it will stay on the stitching.

I don't know what you would use, but a q tip is like using a baseball bat. If anything, use a paint brush, or something more precise.

Thanks Rob. Just great! I've been trying to hold off until my NEXT service visit before plurging on a Taupe wheel...and you get my head buzzing again. Just GREAT!

Sorry. I thought you'd done this one already (you know, when you got back from your trip)!

I'll try not to mention how much I like the transformative effect of the wood wheel. Naturally, your results may vary (but not by much).

Don't buy part from the dealer.

I paid less than $520.00 including installation. I bought the wood steering wheel on ebay and have dealer installed it.

I did the same thing. Dealer install was about $166, if I recall. I lucked out with the wheel on ebay, too.

Since many dealers are selling the wheel on ebay, you can probably get a price match from your dealer -- just ask. And look online for dealer coupons (many will have 10-20% off parts).

Same here I bought the wood trim in Ebay for 375 and got it installed by dealership for 202$ . The dealership told me that it will cost me around 650$.. I saved a little money on this.
