Weird Noise around 35-40 mph - Help?

Hey guys, I have a 2005 RL with about 78k on it. I haven't had it too long and recently noticed something a little odd. When I drive the car around 35-40 mph there is a high pitched noise in the cabin. It tends to start softly around 35 and then gets louder up to about 40 and then just goes away once I go past that speed. It doesn't occur at any other time. Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?

discussed in many threads. search "whine". Theres a high speed whine and a low speed whine. Not sure if related. Mine does the low speed to which you are referring. Mine only occurs in cold weather and over a very small speed range like 30 to 32.
I've had the whine for at least 3 years now. As far as I can tell, no one has had a failure, but many have had it fixed if under warranty

I should add that I'm over 160K miles now on 2005

Prop shaft bearing problem is common. Hope you are under warranty.

Nope, I'm not. Why, is it expensive to fix? If so - how much?

I've been doing some research. Looks like about a $2,000 repair. Wasn't expecting that. Dang, I just bought this car a few months ago to have a "reliable" vehicle.

even though it is annoying, we've yet to have one fail.

I suppose that's one way of looking at it, lol. Yeah, I think it will just have to drive me nuts for now. I'm not all that thrilled about spending $2k on my car just to make a sound go away.

the whine usually goes away once car is warmed up. so for me, whine only occurs during first 5 minutes of drive. That said, I'm in a moderate climate, so don't know if that applies in very cold areas

If you just bought an 05 and didnt know about this problem, you could be in for a very rude awakening. There are a lot of common and some pretty expensive issues with these cars, just like this one, 05s seems to be more affected. Hope you have a good service history on the car. Some of the more common ones are AC field coil, headlight AFS, side mirrors, door handles, rear shade, torque converter, prop shaft, etc. etc search around the board. none are fatal, and with the exception of the AC, most are just annoying. Overall, though, it's a great car, will not leave you stranded and should last a long time.

The car was a one-owner car from TX and has a full dealer service history since 4 miles on the odometer. I have full records of everything, and they did replace the AC before they sold it to me. Hopefully I won't see too many problems. That's part of the reason I went with the Acura, you know?

I sure hope so. I love the car and have been a fan of Acura for quite a while. I've owned 4 Legends and a '96 TL. Thanks for all the help here guys! And Merry Christmas!

I've had my share of quirks with my 05, but no issues that make me regret my purchase.

If you want to prepare yourself, there are a few threads about the issues and some with DIY repairs.

Thanks - I appreciate that. Can you direct me to those threads or what I should search?
