VSA (w/CMBS) part number? Input on these error codes?

As usual, every time I think I have this figured out, it comes back as usual... Its almost humorous...every time I try something reasonable and new, it magically disappears for a few weeks, only to come back!

I got no help from the dealership on the potential VSA computer recall campaign (my RL was out of the date range). Therefore, I am planning to look on Ebay to pick up a cheap VSA computer to try swapping out. The only problem is, there are tons of VSA computers on Ebay for 2006's, but they are all non-CMBS! I have a 2006 Tech W/CMBS, so I was wondering if anybody had the part number for the VSA computer W/CMBS so that I can search for it? If so, I would be deeply indebted! Also, I was wondering where this module is located?

Also, I bought a much better code scanner, and was able to repeatedly find the codes that result when the errors are occurring (see attached pictures that hopefully uploaded). The info is as follows (2 error codes): U0122 Eng; Lost communication with Vehicle Dynamics Control Module (error 1: CURRENT error 2: TEMP). Any thoughts on these errors?

Again, thanks for all of your help!

I don't see anything about a VSA computer. Can you link one of the ones you found so we can cross check if the CMBS trim is different? All I can find is the VSA modulator: OEM Acura RL 2007 VSA MODULATOR parts

As usual, thanks for your help! What I kept getting was just the overall RL ECU, but specifically noting that the ones I found were "non-CMBS". It wasn't clear to me if the VSC/VSA module was a separate stand-alone unit, on the motherboard of the main ECU (with a different version of the ECU with CMBS/ACC). 37820-RJA-A91 (and variants A92 and A93) is one of the ones I found.

Trying to figure out which module the errors I found point to and seeing if I could fine one affordably to swap out and test (given that the problem is still intermittent).

I did notice that now that I have the new OBDII Enhanced Scanner (that scans multiple modules) and allows me to clear and re-calibrate the VSA/VSC system (keeping steering wheel straight), clearing and re-calibrating the VSA/VSC system seems to make the problem go away for a little longer..could just be a coincidence.

Here is the part number for the 2006 CMBS ECU. Notice the parts it replaces.

Thank you so much! Really appreciate it! Will start searching/waiting for one on Ebay and continuing to try to figure this out.

Again, thank you so much!

I have an 05 RL at 160k, and am now having a pretty constant VSA and SH AWD light illumination. Was fine in the warmer months, but leading into this winter it started coming on intermittently but would disapper on a restart after about 40 minutes of driving. Now its on constantly...no matter how warm the car is.

an indenpendent honda/acura specialist said it was either a yaw sensor or vsa modulator. Took it to the dealer for the airbag recall and had them look at it. They said it was the yaw sensor...said it was at 124% of voltage. Both shops wanted about 1000 to replace. I looked at 2007 service manual pdf i found here a few years ago...found it in the electrical component locations pdf. It appears to be in the center console( front passenger side on the floorish).

Anyhow...i see these things on ebay for $50.....anyone take the plug and plunk a new one in? Its just a Silver box and plug. or better yet, take one apart? Perhaps it is a bad solder job like the clock lcd fix? Just curious before i tear into the console...never done that yet.

For $50 it's worth a shot and the centre console isn't difficult at all to open up.

I have a 05 an RL that has a recurring VSA/SH-AWD light come on; however, it's only when the car has been cold soaked in temperatures less than about 58F...i.e. winter. Last winter, I went through the whole season with the AWD disabled, thankfully no snow. I had it looked at when I got the airbag work done, and the dealer said it was the yaw sensor. About 900 to replace...ugh. Anyways, through the spring in summer the light went out and I had the AWD back again. As we roll into fall, we had a cold morning once already, and I got the light again...so I suspect the issue is here to stay.

As I read the forums, there is a consensus to start with the battery. I do have a 4-yr old Sears Die-Hard in there...however, given the temperature observation, not sure if the battery could be the culprit I dont' really have any other gremlins running around aside from an occasional P420 Emission light that comes and goes. I really think it's a bad soldering joint somewhere in yaw sensor (just like in the dash board clock LCD). I'd like to get to sensor and take it apart, but I am discouraged a bit as I suspect it's buried in the console...but I can't find a good diagram on how to get to it.

Any suggestions???

Have you checked out the service manual?

I poked around around a bunch o f2008 RL PDFs I downloaded several years ago from here (Knowledge Base 1??), and found some stuff on the yaw sensor in a file called "Electrical Component Locations", but there is only a picture of the cage, it appears to sit under the shift lock solenoid. I didn't see any directions on how to replace though...but I'll admit I am not fully familiar with the current resources here...links over the years change slightly, and I forget where everything is.

**PS. The link to the service manual from the "read first thread" appears broken. Get a page not found.

vsa, Check SH AWD lights

Hello All,

Any insight to daily intermittent vsa triangle on cluster and Check SH AWD in MID display. Clears temporarily after restart. 2005 RL.

Please advise?

As noted above, when an RL throws any weird unintuitive combination of warning lights, the first suspect is the battery. Honda gave this car an undersized battery for the amount of electricals in it, probably to save weight on a midsize car with aspirations of sporty handling that already tipped the scales at a hefty 4,100 pounds. The result is a battery that usually croaks about every 2 years, typically showing a first symptom of slightly low voltage output that causes its sensitive electrical system to start throwing off all kinds of error codes and warning lights. Often a test of the battery itself reveals nothing, yet replacing the battery fixes them all anyway.

Wanted to update.

VSA and Check SH AWD lights went away for 400 miles.
Returned today. A mechanic scanned it and reset the steering angle. Hopefully resolved
