Transmission mounts - need some help
I recently replaced my motor mounts, once that was done there was a vibration coming from the engine that wasn't there before, I had assumed that because the mounts were fixed the transmission mounts were now in need of replacement and taking all the vibration thus causing more vibration than normal.
I bought a transmission mount, front upper for 24.99 with hopes that the more expensive mount was fine. I got the mount, tore the car apart and for the life of me I can't find the mount. I did however find the lower more expensive mount and it's shot so there is that. for our car, are there two mounts? I also found a couple other mounts that I have no idea what they are for but seem to be in need of replacement. Any help would be appreciated. |
Some pics to help

I’ve searched the car over and over, the mount that I purchased does not go on my car, I’m 100% certain. However, I did find the transmission mount that’s bad. I found a replacement at parts geek for 309 and a 15.00 coupon with free shipping and no tax made it 294.00
here is the old busted mount, makes sense that I was feeling a large vibration. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...b5a29dbf9.jpeg |
Those always break
Those are always busted.

Mine is also busted, unfortunately it's an expensive endeavor to replace engine mounts on our cars. I also ordered a transmission mount from Amayama.com I paid about 260$ Canadian (195 USD) including shipping, mount, bunch of bolts. Car has about 140k miles.

Against my better judgement I'm taking the car to the dealership to have her looked at and help to determine what is wrong. After replacing all the mounts in the car (3 motor and 1 transmission) I'm still getting a vibration at a stop while in gear. I can't figure it out. I made sure the vacuum lines were hooked up, made sure the mounts were bolted on properly... just no idea. So for 90.00 hopefully they can tell me what is wrong and God willing it's cheap.

Today i changed the front mount. It was PITA, i did it without removing fans as my rfc unit's screws were rusted. |
update: Took the car to the dealer and they found that the passenger mount was broken, yes the new one I installed. I got a hold of mount_expert on eBay and they promptly refunded my money with just a picture of the broken mount (great service) I did opt to buy the OEM mount. I installed it myself and still am having the vibrations at a stop light or stop sign or anywhere I'm stopped with the car in gear.
I'm also feeling the vibrations around 60 mph. I decided to do a little test - I put the car in manual and around 60 I stayed in 4th and got zero vibration, put it in 5th and the vibrations came back. Not sure what that means but it's something. I'm going to take the back to the dealer next week to have it looked at again, I'm at a total loss. They double checked all my work and all of it was perfect, now I wait, which I'm not good at doing. I'll update again next week. |

Alright... I'm losing my mind.
Recap: I replaced all my motor mounts and transmission mount (we only have one - that the dealer is saying and that I can find). I was still getting vibrations in gear at a stop and low RPM's. The passenger mount broke, I replaced it with OEM - still vibrations Dealer said the front mount was moving too much, I replaced the front and rear mount with XLR8 mounts. Still getting vibrations. When I say vibrations it's annoying, you can feel it through the whole car, it's not a cool horsepower vibration either. I haven't checked the transmission mount yet (the new one to see if it's damaged somehow). With all that, what am I missing - there has to be a reason that I'm getting these vibrations, an explainable reason and a fixable reason. Any thoughts or input would be wonderful. |

It's the transmission mount, the same one you replaced. I know it's confusing as the pictures are different.

I'm experiencing those same low RPM vibrations as you after I swapped my engine and replaced all except the transmission mount. I hoped you figured out what it was! Still no luck?

You would get extra vibration with the XLR8 mounts since they use a stiffer material. Mine are all OEM and I've got this annoying vibration. My only thought at this point is that maybe the bolt that connects the motor to the mount on each point is too tight and not allowing the slightest movement of the motor, but that seems really dumb to me. I also installed RV6 high flow cats, but you didn't so I'm lead to believe it is a mount issue and not an exhaust note issue...

I just bought this with the 5% off. Looks like an easy replacement accoeding to Youtube..I wish someone would make a DIY for the rear engine mount. I have the part but don't not confident I can do it because of the limited space.

Remove the strut brace to get better access, remove the top bracket, use either wobble extensions or wobble sockets. Wobble sockets are the better option. You need 1-2' of extension and a breaker bar to get the 4 bolts that hold the to the subframe. The main bolt is very tedious to remove and replace due to an absolute lack of space behind the mount. Just use a 14mm wrench and be prepared to lay on the motor for a few minutes for that one. It's not terrible to replace but it's very tedious. Don't forget to support the motor slightly to get the weight off the mount.

I replaced the XLR8 mounts with OEM.... 100% better. Zero vibration.
Anyone want to buy a slightly used front and rear motor mount? |

Hmmmm... My rear mount came from O'Reilly's. Supposed to be an OEM mount. I can't imagine that is causing my vibration, but damn. Now I wonder...
|
Yup.. OEM mounts are the only surefire way of getting zero vibrations. If you do decide to go aftermarket for the others, do so; but for the rear, always OEM if you value comfort.

Of course the rear one is the only one that I bought from a third party... Others are all genuine Honda.
The reasoning behind it is because the rear is closest to the firewall which ultimately transfers the vibrations into the cabin (where you're sitting) Not too late to just replace the last remaining aftermarket to OEM! |
Just replaced the transmission mount on the RL. Super easy to do. 5 bolts total. 2 at the bottom and three against the driver wheel well. I also attempted to replace my rear engine amount but couldnt get the bolts on the strut bar against the firewall out..My neighbor ended up helping. He took the rear engine mount without the strut bar..it was a team effort but i didnt think he would be able to do it. It turned out that my rear engine mount was in good condition..only the transmission mount was broken. car drives great.

Had I known I'd have left it there and only replace the transmission mount. Job would take 30 min lol. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...1aabfcc69b.jpg Busted transmission mount https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...a138b5d9c3.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...8edad09259.jpg |
Can anyone who's done the rear engine mount telk me how you took the bolts of the strut tower against the firewall? I tried 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and none was the right size. My neighbor got the mount off without taking the strut bar off but I am curious how to do it. thanks.

You have to remove the cowl to gain access to the hidden bolts that hold the center bars of the brace. I think they're 13mm in there but don't quote me on that. It sounds like you were trying to get at it from the bottom, but the bolts are inside the area hidden by the cowl. Here is the under side and as you can see, the "nut" is welded in place. Sorry, I don't have a picture of the inside to show the top of the bolts from when I did this job.

To be fair, the XLR8 mounts have a nut at the bottom of the mount to hold it together, after I replaced mine with OEM I found that I don’t tighten the XLR8 mounts this mostly causing my vibration issues. Had I known.... I would have tightened that nut and been just fine. Again, lesson learned.

Hi, this is a couple of years old thread, but a good one. The other day, I parked my car next to an enclosed area/wall and shifted transmission from P to R, to D and vice versa. So from P to R, there is some kind of noise, like a clunk or a click. From D to R or R to D is a bit louder. Also when I shut off the car, the is an accompanying metallic click. Oh and I recently was driving slowly, maybe up to 20 MPH and downshifted my car manually from 2nd to 1st gear and felt some thump. How can I see/check transmission mount for excessive movement and possibly take a video?
Could it be transmission mount issue? Car has 116k miles on it. |
All,
I have replaced all the mounts on my 06 RL. Including the ridiculously expensive transmission mount. Originally for the 3 engine mounts I went cheap. This was a bad idea, the car vibrated like mad. I went OEM on all 4 mounts. She's smooth as silk now. This can be done at home, it isn't easy, but if I can do it, you can do it. |
