Totalled my RL
#41
Flanker,
Glad you're ok!! My 05 Graphite RL was also totaled! Must be something going around!
On Wednesday, my insurance company declared my one-owner 05 RL a total loss. I got rear-ended last Monday during morning rush-hour by an 04 Honda Civic going 60 mph; I was stopped behind traffic. Luckily, my 12 year old RL absorbed all of that force and, with the exception of tenderness in my neck muscles the next morning, I was also not injured. The repair shop stopped computing repair cost when it reached $15-16K which encompassed 90 hours of frame rail replacement and repairs only--no body repairs or painting. I haven't settled with my insurance company yet but am definitely looking for a replacement for my 05 RL In Hawaii, nice, low-mileage RLs are hard to find.

Very sorry to hear about your loss. Glad to hear you're okay! The RL is a very safe vehicle, it looks like the ACE structure did it's job. There are things beyond our control, I guess that's what insurance is for. My incident has not worn off on me yet and I'm still a bit paranoid about other drivers on the road around me.
I agree low mileage RLs are hard to find. There are only three RLs for sale near my area that has (relatively) low miles. I've pretty much given up, as I'm not willing to fly to a dealer to sign the paperwork and drive back. It's not worth the time and effort.

Suzuka Master
Back on topic so do you have a replacement car in mind yet?

I've replayed this episode many times in my head, and now looking back it might have been avoidable had I been extra vigilant at the intersection. I wasn't looking down, but I was also completely oblivious to the oncoming traffic at that moment, probably was thinking of something else at the time. Lessons learned for me is to be extra defensive and scan the surrounding at intersections and don't take a green light for granted.

I appreciate your candor.
I drive a LOT for work and it's a constant challenge to stay vigilant...especially throughout the day when you get tired or distracted.
I'm just glad you're okay, sucks to be out of a car possibly, but it can be exciting to hunt for the next one.
Good luck!

Thought I'd have a follow-up to my post. Out of curiosity, I google searched my RL's VIN today and found this:
https://www.autobidmaster.com/en/car...AGE_DAYTON_OH/
Looks like the car is being auctioned off.
On a separate note, I've purchased a new 2017 Lexus GS 350 AWD. It drives and handles very similar to the RL, has slightly more punch during acceleration from a stop light and is marginally quieter overall.

I got the non F-sport version with Premium Package, Cold Weather option, and Mark Levinson surround sound. To be honest I'm not too impressed with Mark Levinson, but the GS is overall a great car. Was able to haggle 13% off MSRP.

Sweet, congrats! I'm sure she'll serve you well. I really liked how the new F-Sport GS350 drove. Haven't driven the non F-Sport, but I'm sure it's great. To second your Mark Levinson point, I was never impressed with the Levinson system on my dad's LS, or any other Levinson system. I completely understand why you're underwhelmed.

Thank you for posting photos. Beautiful car. Very reliable as well. Does it have blind spot monitoring?

The GS is not selling particularly well, and dealers are more willing to deal on the GS than any other Lexus models. Especially as end of year approaches, there can be nice incentives on the GS. All of my negotiations were done via e-mail. I only set foot in the dealer to complete the paperwork and drive the car home.
