Are there any wipers available that are better than OEM?
I have changed the inserts a few times but they are still horrible in the rain and snow. I haven't changed the entire wiper yet but that is my next move unless there are better aftermarket options available. From the quick research I have done there aren't many aftermarket wipers available.
What do you guys recommend?

Is it your wipers or the glass?

The wipers. I am aware of the TSB about the wiper arms being bad. It could be that as well. I am going to start with new wipers first. I assume they are original and have lost their ability to apply equal pressure across the windshield.
So far all I have been able to find is aftermarket PIAA inserts. I haven't found any aftermarket entire wipers. Just inserts. It looks like my only option is OEM.

Is that the price for entirely new wiper arm assemblies? If your rubber insert is worn out replacing just that can't cost more than $20 even at the dealer. I've actually found the wipers to be just fine and work very well. If you park outside a lot, the sun will harden the rubber over time. For my TL that's parked outside I need to change the rubber inserts about once a year. But my RL and RDX wipers (garaged) are still the original and they work very well.

I've used both PIAA and OEM and have been satisfied with both. The OEM is fine silicone rubber, fairly priced and when used on a properly cleaned windscreen does fine. Attention to cleaning the windshield AND the wiper blades does wonders....if road grease and crud is allowed to get on there all bets are off IMHO.

Doesn't the RL have a winter position for the wipers to increase tension? I swear I read it in the manual!

Yes, there is a "winter position" but it only rises the "parked" position up to avoid caking and freezing from snowfall. To my knowledge, it does not change tension.

When installing new inserts does it matter what direction the metal spines are facing? They tend to have a curve to them. Should the curve face the windshield or away from it? I would assume towards the windshield is correct.

I swear by the PIAA Super Silicone refills. Terrific performance and very long life. And unlike a lot of modern wipers you can only buy as complete blades, they don't look garishly tasteless doing it.
