Sunroof "beat" issue - revisit

Today was another really nice day, wanted the sunroof open and it seemed to be "acting up" (the beat issue) so thought it would be a good time to experiment.

Found some of the antistatic packing foam rubber from something that I had received, cut a rather small piece off and wedge it under the middle of the sunroof "spoiler".

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

Just doing a testing type thing but it sure worked. After I put that in, I drove around a fair amount and never had the beat issue no matter where the wind was coming from, trucks passing or vice versa <g> or speed. I'm "guessing" it would be good up to 75 mph - of course, it's not legal to drive that fast around here so I didn't but my "calculations" suppor this theory. <wide grin>

What I did get in return from this little experiment was a sunroof that acted like most all the others I've had - heard wind rushing across the top of the car and NO beat. I also got to wondering if the noise cancelling was adding to the resonance once it started the beat.

What I gleaned from this is that I feel Acura could probably fix this issue pretty easily by making the spring tension on the "spoiler" stronger. Hello, Acura, anyone listening? <wink>

I've never had any issue with my sunroof and the 'beat' issue.
Maybe some cars don't need it and some do?

Good post regardless.
