I am aware that the RL requires 6 spark plugs. My question is:
are these spark plugs good?

The NGK/Denso are OEM stock for most Honda/Acura.

When i had my 105k tuneup on my TL, i upgrade to the NGK Iridium plugs (suppose to be higher quality/better proformance)

I haven't priced out spark plugs for the RL yet, largely because I still have 45k to go before it needs it, but those plugs you link to look awfully expensive. Bosch plugs are fine to use, $2 each for platinum tipped.

platinum is what the RL comes with I think. Iridium is supposed to be a step up from platinum with better performance fuel economy.

I know that the NGK Iridium IX are about 7 bucks at almost any auto parts store and are supposed to last 50,000 miles while the ngk laser iridiums are supposed to last 100,000.


I myself am about to try the iridiums over the platinum to see if there is any noticeble difference.

well i only have 45k miles on the car....
but it wouldnt hurt to change them now


how do you do a tb service?
should i just open it up and clean it?

Changing new spark plugs won’t yield sufficient horsepower gain or enhanced mpg (unless they are misfiring or totally toasted)

i used to have a volvo S60R making close to 350 crank hp due to ECU/dp/exhaust. I changed out my stock plugs, that had about 45k miles on them, and put in denso iridium plugs. I didn't notice anything... don't waste your money. unless your plugs are BAD - you don't need to change them, and honestly, I don't think using the OEM vs these $$ plugs will yield any power on your RL. on my S60R, which was pretty darn fast - it was about as fast as a stock E46 M3 (track proven!) - it didn't do squat - i chalked it up as a waste of money at the time... YMMV..

I concur that changing the spark plugs before the 105k recommendation is not needed. However, upgrading from oem to iridium plugs would be a worthwhile investment(+$20 vs oem NGK) since it won't get replace again for another 6/7 years or another 105k.

i can't speak to how long they last...they could last longer than OEM.

my only point is that for an RL owner - changing plugs from OEM to iridium isn't going to yield any real world gains that you would notice in day in day out driving...

i had a fairly high perofrmance sports sedan that was modified, and changing plugs didn't do anything that my butt dyno could detect....

if I was going to change the plugs b/c I was at the 100k mile mark, surek,k why not put in the best plug available.. but if you have 45k on your car and are looking for a "performance" upgrade, I'd pass on the plug swap...

you guys need to do some research the RL comes stock with iridium plugs! They last 100000 kilometers under normal driving as they get old they will slowly affect fuel economy and throttle response. Im sure if you pull them out and see them all rust color at the bottom of the porcelin and gap are diffrent that happens over time to. It took me 30mins to change the plugs and i bought them off EBAY. Denso IK20

Agreed, just because a plug may last 100k does not mean it is performing the same at 100k as it would at 5k.
Plugs are easy to change on the RL, just avoid those Splitfires and Pulstar plugs.

Agreed... the '05 + RL comes stock with Iridium plugs... can't remember if my 04 RL came with iridium or platinum.. either way I replaced them with the Bosch iridium at 100k miles. For my 05, I will probably replace with the stock NGK iridium plugs.. and yes, this is an easy task to do. Save the $ and do it yourself.

I have a 07 RL with 103,000 miles and was looking at changing the plugs. The dealer wanted big bucks to do this. Has anyone changed them on a 05-08? Was it easy? Looking under the hood especially the back three, it looks like a bear!!

Back three are easy to get to. Just need a few extensions. Disconnect the coil pack. Remove the 10mm nut holding it down-don't drop it.
Remove spark plug, inspect, reverse the order. Simple enough.

I too changed mine at about 90,000miles. car is significantly smoother, i used NGK IZFR6k11 as well, Laser iridium.
