Should I buy a 2011 RL with 109k for $14k
Hey everyone! So I was looking around for a car and came across a 2011 RL (Tech Package) with 109k for $14k on the ODO. Three questions:
1) I know the timing belt has to be changed soon, how much would this cost? I am thinking about $1000.
2) Any other gremlins I should know about on this model?
3) How much should I offer for this car?

If I was buying a used car like that, I would ask for:
* the car's "pedigree" -- all service records.
* detailed pictures to see how well cared for (or not) the car is.
If the car is a cream puff and in mint condition, maybe $14k isn't too bad.

Thanks guys, the carfax report looks pretty good. Everything serviced at the dealer etc. Going to go take a look at it tomorrow, but the expense I see is the timing belt change almost immediately given the mileage.
Just wondering what I should offer on a $14k price, maybe start with $12k?

That price is too high. Also 109k for a 2011 car is rather high as it is so use that to leverage a deal.

It will be hard sell for that dealer for a simple reason that car is looked at as luxury, and most people will not buy anything over 100k and pay that price.
Second, let it sit on his lot for a month, two three - he may take your 11-12k offer...
Now, price is as others said, too high, considering you need to shell out immediate $1000-1500, depending where you do timing belt service.
Other things to consider replacing are: shocks, struts and engine mounts. That alone will probably set you back about 2-3k if you do not go with OEM parts and have local shop perform the work.
I can bet your engine mounts replacement will be needed within 20-30k miles - sooner you do it the better... same goes for suspension.
One thing you should definitely research is oil consumption in 3.7L Acura engines... Acura TL SH-AWD has massive problem with these (3 of 4 engines are eating oil), for RL I have not heard it as loud as for the TL but do consider that less of RLs have been sold, and yes, it is the same engine.
You might be better off getting 2008 RL that has clean service record and carfax, etc.

Thank you for all this info.
This car for me has 2 things going for it. The color combination and the fact that its towards the end of the model year lifecycle, which to me means that most of the kinks have been worked out.
I'll start with $11000, just praying that I don't get laughed off the lot.

Color option/combo you mentioned is something that is quite a luxury to a buyer who is buying a used car. This luxury remains to be one of the main things for ppl who buy brand new cars, and kind of have the ability to say "pick and choose".
In our cases buying a used car, yes - color combo plays a big role, but imagine how limited the market then is to get exactly what you want to get. In short, be open to a different combo because what is more important here is price you pay, what money you have to invest and what mileage is on the odo.
Good luck man! Hope you find a better deal with the wanted color combo.

Thanks buddy.
Upon a little more research I see another 2011 Acura RL Advance listed for $13k that has 91k miles. This one does have my color and has the technology package, so maybe I'll go upto 11.5k.
Does anyone know what the difference is between the advance and technology packages?

Actually, I do not think they will be laughing at you... if anything they will be pretty cautious not too loose you as a buyer, and get the most money they can out of your pocket. Reason? Because these cars are not Honda Civics that they can sell in a heartbeat. These cars are bought by people who know what they want, what they researched on, and what they are getting.

i've always bought used cars and never had the luxury of choosing colors...
it's more important to get a working car than getting the color of your choice.....
cuz, what happens if the color of your choice is a fucked up car!?
thus why it's SUPER important to have multiple cars lined up, in case the deal goes awry or the car isnt mechanically sound

I think the price is a little high but you also have the advantage of looking at a car that isn't on people's radar. If it's truly a cream puff, I'd over NADA excellent price out the door considering you need to sink a grand into a timing belt. Just remember, always be ready to walk away!! Hope that helps!!

Less than $10K
If this is the one in Morristown, which ultimately was sold at auction, with TB and other various expensive maintenance it will need, I wouldn't pay over $10K.
This dealer will definitely promote their own financing and will likely only offer a better selling price IF you finance with them. Very small lot and isn't into moving inventory quickly despite how long their sitting.
Don't get me wrong, it looks good and they're great cars, this one is simply WAY overpriced.
Don't hesitate to expand your search region for the right car, demographics are a BIG factor in price & quality, even on used cars.

Priced on the high side.
I purchased a 2009 RL w 62k miles for $13,750 last month.
Be patient, there are a lot of RL s for sale and every week, more for sale. I drove 3 RLs and had a few others on my radar. Drove 2hrs to see one and walked away even though I already had my check in hand. Also drove 1hr to see another RL and walked cause they dropped price to $15750 at 100k mi.
I only pulled the trigger because of the mileage/price, dealer maintained clean car fax. Color combo was secondary.
Good luck

I bought my 2009 RL with 84000 miles for $9800. Carfax was descent, timing belt done but not the water pump it also had a strong cigarette smell... I replaced the front and side motor mounts got rid of the smell. In the future I will need to replace the oil pump also will check all the fluids like the differential, transmission, and oil change.Overall the car is great.

whatever you do, hold out of a 2011 or 2012 with the 6 speed auto.

My 2011 has the 6 speed auto it it's never felt right. Many trips to dealer and leaving it with them has gotten nowhere. Techline says everything is within spec at this moment.
It's still not right so once the warmer weather hits I'm sure I'll be back at the dealer to have them investigate once again. Super cold weather it's not too bad - super hot it jumps and feels like it slips.
The 2009 and 2010 models I've test driven with the 5 speeds were excellent and didn't have the issues I feel with the 2011.
