RL from ILX

Hello everyone. I was once very active in the ILX community, but it's time to move over. I'll be passing my 2013 ILX to one of my daughters for me to make my newly purchased, but have not received (being shipped), 2006 RL within the next week, or so, I've wanted one of these second-gen models for a long time, but never followed through until now. I've never ridden in or driven one, but I've had two other Acuras, so we'll see. I've been reading through the posts to see what the future may hold in terms of modding, maintenance, and repair as I make her my daily driver. Fortunately, it came along when I was in buying mode, hence the passing down of the ILX to my daughter.
Here's a link, while it still works, to the pics of it.

I'm looking forward to the journey here and in it! Thanks for all you have posted and I hope to add to the experience in this forum.

Midnight Mystery 01-13-2019 04:02 AM

Congratulations!

Does that really say 21K miles?????

She's a beauty!

I downloaded the pics and I can post them if you want me to, that way, when the link gets closed the pics will remain in the thread.

JMJ3rd 01-13-2019 06:14 AM

That would be great of you to do that with the pics! No need to do all of them. Yes, it has 21957 miles. When it gets here from Florida, it will be an experience, hopefully, a great one!

Thank you!

Midnight Mystery 01-13-2019 06:20 AM

I just can't believe it! This must have come out of a time capsule! How did you find this gem?

Hate to say it, but I'd be too scared to daily this, belongs in a muesem, lol!

I have the rest of the pics if you want me to PM them to you if you don't have them saved yourelf.

JMJ3rd 01-13-2019 06:28 AM

Thanks! No need to PM them, I'll pick them up later. I had a notification set up on eBay, of all places. It's still hard to believe, for me, until it gets here. The dealer was great to work with and was very helpful. I'd never made this kind of purchase on eBay, before.

JMJ3rd 01-13-2019 06:36 AM

Time for bed. I worked 12 last night and just got in. Chat with you later. Gotta get some sleep. Midnight Mystery, thanks again, very much for your help!

Midnight Mystery 01-13-2019 07:53 AM

Crazy hours, I get it!

CFoote 01-13-2019 10:54 AM

Congratulations. Has the airbag recalls been done yet? That is about the only thing I'd worry about. Congratulations again!

Poor girl, your daughter. She thinks she got the better car

Which trim is it?

I think so, IIRC, I thought I saw it on the CARFAX, but may be mistaken since I looked at so many in the last few months. It'll be going to my local Acura dealer, with whom I've dealt for 15 years, to check it out for me. Thanks for the heads up on it.

It's the Tech package according to the VIN.
My daughter doesn't know she's getting it, yet. She's away at school driving a 2009 Scion HD, so this will light her up, regardless!

pewpew 01-13-2019 06:55 PM

Absolutely mint condition! Awesome pick up. If you plan on putting miles on it, I'd recommend getting a proper detail and ceramic coat.

Midnight Mystery 01-13-2019 07:21 PM

I'd hate to buy a car this clean at 13 years old, I'd feel too guilty to put miles on it.

schen72 01-13-2019 08:11 PM

I have both a '16 ILX and a '06 RL. The RL is by far the better built vehicle with more premium materials inside. Even compared to the '16 ILX (which is already a step up from the pre-16 ILXs) it's always jarring when I go between these cars. The ILX is fun in a go-kart kind of way, but the RL is like driving a tank. Here's a top tip: the door detents on the RL are not strong enough. So if you quickly open the door and then get out, you might find the door coming right back at you and slamming into your body. The RL door is very heavy compared to the ILX.

truonghthe 01-13-2019 08:52 PM

beside lacking the modern techs (apple car play, BTA music streaming), MPG is the only things you will miss from the ILX. Other than that I have to say the RL easily beat any new Acura line up in term of built quality and design of interior/ exterior.

My TL did that, if I'd stand up fast enough, I could walk away, and the door would close itself after I got out, lol. Drove me nuts.

That's the plan about the detail and ceramic. I want to ceramic coat it, but I don't see any threads about what y'all have used, yet. Any suggestions?

There is a tinge of guilt, but somebody has to do it, so why not me? :toocool:

Well, as long as she's cared for!

RL09 01-14-2019 12:45 AM

The RL's door is certainly much heavier. The pull back is mainly coz im sure as most notice, you can just give the door a little nudge and it will close on it's own.

I tried that in an 2018 ILX, 2018 RDX.. not even close.

Of course, when friends ride with me, they're always slamming my doors; not used to how this door works :bored:

rlx015 01-14-2019 01:35 PM

Amazing find and great snatch of the RL :) ... I like to call them Unicorn lol because to find low miles with such great preserved interior is amazing!!!
One suggestion I have is steering wheel - you gotta go for the wooden one... it will so complete the interior of the car you won't believe how much... and +1 on detail and some protection like ceramic, etc. considering it is a black car, it will really pop after you do the detailing on it

Walfunk 01-14-2019 03:58 PM

exact same spec as mine. You will love it.

projektvertx 01-14-2019 04:47 PM

I have one word for that car: WOW!

HDNBenjamin 01-14-2019 09:53 PM

Congrats and WOW what a find with such low miles. I have 145k miles on my RL and love every mile of it. Recently purchased and installed the USA Spec BT45-ACU to stream music wirelessly and it is worth the upgrade if you want to modernize the RL.

There is no CarPlay or AA on any ILX before 2019 (2nd MMC).

I have the wood shift knob on mine and it matches the wood trim perfectly.

Midnight Mystery 01-15-2019 12:58 AM

I LOVE me some wood!!!

JMJ3rd 01-15-2019 02:48 AM

Thanks, I'll check that out!

After seeing some of the other cars with it, I see what you mean. Thanks!

Funny I feel same way about few my cars as well. Just snagged a super low 02 4runner Limited (37kmi) still smells new on inside. I wont use as my DD but as folks say theyre made to be driven and as long as its maintained here on out you should be fine.

OP - Have the TB and WP been completed?

On ceramic coat there are a number of products out there choose the one that best fits your budget and plans for the vehicle. I have it on a number of vehicles from Modesta to Opti Coat to Cquartz. I'd start with baselining the car first before going to detail and coating you dont want folks working on a car that has had fresh detail and coating applied.

Congrats on purchase, youll be pleased. Mine has 87k miles and I added the touches mentioned in this thread plus aspec kit and love this car, always wanted one.

Midnight Mystery 01-15-2019 07:09 AM

Back in spring 2013, I came accross a 1999 4Runner with 29K miles, I think. Still going for $14.9K. I thought that was amazing!

Yup, prices are still crazy on old 'yota's. Shop in VA has enough profit in them that they are refurbishing them with well over 100k miles and selling for mid to high teens.

OP - on the bits suggested; wheel and shifter I know for sure shift knob is no longer available new and I am unsure about steering wheel esp in your color. I know when I was looking for my steering wheel in graphite I was able to get a new one but they were being discontinued. I really didnt think would make much of a difference but I love the feel. Also since yours will be a daily you should think of protecting the leather since it is a lighter color too.

OptiCoat Pro. Should run you about $600 with paint correction also.

No offense but any Opticoat Pro involve in paint correction won't goes less than $1000. I had get quote from many authorize detailer and the cheapest was $1500, only authorize dealer able to give out the warranty card.

No offense but you don't know the same detailer I do. My paint was in pretty good shape and he didn't have to do a lot of correction so $600 was all I had to shell out. Detailers vary wildly on what they charge anyway.

pcloadletter 01-20-2019 09:36 PM

Nice choice, I really enjoyed my RL. Don't waste you money on a detail, it looks great from the pictures. Get some good summer tires as it will transform the car.
