Replacing Bumper Protectors - 2005 RL

I want to replace three of my bumper protectors on my 2005 RL, but I'm seeing conflicting descriptions on how to do it. A few posts on here say I don't need to remove the bumper to do it, and then a few say I do, because there's a little screw that holds it in place (at least on the front bumper).
If I can do it in my driveway (without taking off the bumper), that would be awesome. However, I don't want to get into it only to find I have to remove the bumper(s).
Can someone please verify the real deal?

Are you talking about the chrome/painted strips on either side of the bumpers? If it’s what I’m thinking about those don’t need the bumper to be removed to get them off.

Yes, the chrome/painted strip molding that goes around the bumpers. The thread on here that I read previously has conflicting descriptions. One guy said it would take five minutes, the other said you have to remove the bumper.

Nope, use a trim removal tool between the bumper and that piece to get to the tabs. Start closest to the grille on the top.

I did it. Just like he said. Very easy, nothing to be afraid of, and I have no special skills.

Okay cool, thanks gentlemen! Can you recommend a good trim removal tool? Or can I just ask for one at NAPA and they'll know what I'm talking about?

I replaced the drivers side last week and have the passenger side on order, I just put painters tape above the protector to prevent the paint from being damaged/scratched and used a small flathead to pry. I only needed the flathead to get it started and was able to pull the rest of it with my hands for the most part. I actually started prying on the side closest to the wheel, it was very easy. I'll be using the same method for the passengers side when it gets here.

I normally don’t recommend harbor freight, but this is one of those occasions where their trim removal tools are actually pretty good.

I would suggest that you have the new bumper protectors covered with 3M Paint Protection Film or you'll be replacing them again. Then (and this is making it a little more difficult) remove both bumpers, push the new protectors in until they click and then take a heat gun or miniature torch to the tabs to make them pliable and bend them so the protectors won't pop out. I had a body shop do this a couple of years ago when they installed my A-Spec kit and have had absolutely no problems since.
