Just received my passenger airbag recall. Did a check online and my car hasn't had any of the 4 recalls completed. I'm going to try and arrange to have all of them done in one hit.

On my car, a 2005 there are a total of 4 recalls.

1. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 10V-504 BRAKE MASTER

2. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 13V-092 VSA ECU MALFUNCTION

3. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 16V-061TAKAYA DRIVER AIR BAG INFLATOR

4. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 16V-344 PASSENGER AIR BAG INFLATOR

I don't know if all cars are affected, but if you go to Recall Information for Safety & Defects | Acura Owners Site and enter your VIN, you can see which recalls affect your particular car and also whether they have been completed.

This is a news story local to me... I'm gonna call Monday and get a rental. Something tells me I'll have no problem getting one...

Takata settles lawsuit over Jacksonville woman's death
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Air bag manufacturer Takata on Friday morning settled a wrongful death lawsuit with the family of a 77-year-old Patricia Mincey.

The amount of the settlement was not disclosed, but both sides were pleased, according to the family's attorney. A separate lawsuit against Duval Honda is still active.

The loss of life tops all off. And from driving a car. what's supposed to save you killed you.

Everyone should get a rental, and make it cost the industries too much to make it expensive for them to try and make quick profits in the future by ordering cheap parts and risk our lives as a consequence.

I don't understand people who don't want a rental for your car with a defective airbag. There is indisputable proof that of the defect, and the risk of serious injury or death is pretty high if the airbag deploys, especially in the humid climates. Why would you decline a rental car?

We enjoy OUR cars so much that it will take more than the low risk of an accident times the low risk of a faulty inflator* to set it to the side for a lowly rental. Sure some people got good replacements, but you want me to park an RL for three months (what many were told) so I can drive a Sonata instead?

The RL has better safety ratings than most cars. Opting for a rental does not exclude the possibility that an accident occur and that the results of such an accident would be better in an RL. You have to weigh all aspects.

Absolutely. In hot and humid climates it's quite risky not to do so.

You can ask for an RL equivalent. I only mentioned it and they bumped it up to 55+/day.

I see it as an acknowledged design flaw that has the potential to kill you if the airbag deploys. Especially since the safer stop gap measure (until parts come in) is to drive a rental car at no cost to you. I agree the RL has very good crash ratings, but it doesn't help you if you survive the crash only to die from shrapnel in the throat/head. I did ask for an "RL equivalent" and they offered a BMW X3 which I was happy to drive.

Quite true. I had to get creative. One stealership dealt only with discount. So, i discounted that. Another, dealt with enterprise; much better but not the branch I know. So, I got that enterprise branch to call them and say 'yes, we'll accept your LPO'. So I arranged for a C300 or a Genesis. Both 2016 and loaded models.

Of course, stealership cocky lady didn't appreciate my creative 'my way' approach. They got me the airbag part in 3 weeks.

I understand the risk. My Tundra has a Takata airbag in the passenger side. I need to get it fixed, but I haven't.

All I am saying is that the risk is low, and avoiding that risk does not exclude the possibility of introducing another. With that in mind, some people are willing to "risk it" and not be stuck in a Sonata for a month. Just trying to give you the perspective you said you couldn't wrap your head around.

Eveyone should do what makes them most happy.

I've got the sonata, not a bad car really. No rl, but not too bad and it's like new. 35-40 mpg and a lot more room everywhere. My choice was a Nissan Sentra or something called a ford forte. It was through hertz and they didn't have much else, nothing even close to a luxury sedan. I don't mind driving the sonata as much as I thought I would. I have a half a tank left and it says 300 miles to empty!

Every time I get in or out of the RL I stop and stare at it from different angles, lick my lips & continue on with my day ..

I'd go nuts just staring at it without getting to experience it

I'm still waiting and I'm assuming I'll be waiting longer since I got a letter about the passenger side.

Funny story, I got a Nissan Altima as my rental, 3 weeks in and I get a call it now has a recall; now I'm in a new Chevy Impala.

We received the recall for the third gen CR-V passenger side on my wife's car last week. That puts both of our cars under the same recall for the passenger side.

That looks like a shooting victim. Where did it come from, is it truly relevant to this thread, and is it necessary?

Yes it is a real victim of the Takata air bag failure and i know its shocking but this is the reality people need to see, so its not like the media hiding all the real gore that goes on in war etc..So people cant really feel the effects of these type of things that actually happen in REAL life.I bet when people see this there gonna be running to there dealerships to get the fix Lol.Also in the article it states that a person was killed in a 01 accord and 02 Acura TL so it can happen heres the article btw...Reported Takata Airbag Bomb Victims - Motoring World Nigeria

Picked up my rental today. Chrysler 200s. Stopped a the Acura dealer, after getting my info, they said they would order the air bags and let me know when they come in. Didn't say anything about a rental or anything. So I mentioned the rental car and not driving mine, he said sure! Gave me a R.O # to give to Enterprise and took downt he mileage off my car. Said they could store it there or in my garage. If I hadn't mentioned the rental, hey wouldn't have said anything.

OMG i hated that car and i immediately drove it right back to Ent to complain and switch it out the transmission was so jerky on that thing and they said it was normal. But its a PIA dealing with Ent managers you literally have to scream at them to get things done and becareful because they only allow you to swapp the car out 3 times i believe..Went from a POS chyrsler 200 to a new ford 150 to finally a decent chevy malibu..

I had one of those 200 rentals in Hawaii. It was a decent enough car to tool around town, especially since there's nowhere to drive fast in Hawaii anyway. But the whole car just seemed very... Fisher Price to me. For my airbag rental, my dealer willingly offered a rental from the very beginning. A friend of mine has a BMW affected by the airbag recall and his dealer made it very difficult for him to get a rental. You'd think with the BMW prices they would take care of you. Apparently not.

1 month today in a rental. Called dealer for an update, they have no info. Called Acura directly, they also have no idea, said parts "could" arrive late summer and through the Fall. They have switched away from takata entirely, new company I guess can't keep up. Seems passenger side inflators are more likely to come in earlier. Very frustrating...miss my RL. I filed a complaint with NHTSA mainly because I find it unacceptable to say "we don't know." Regardless of the scale of the recall, the company producing the inflators should be in close communication with the car manufacturers to be able to provide more info on delivery schedules.

On a side note, we drove the rental, 2016 sonata on a 750 mile rt this week, pretty comfortable ride, got 40mpg and it only cost $25 to fill it up. I still miss my RL!

It certainly lessens the pain when you're in a nice rental car.
