Rear View Camera Works on 2005!

All,

To those that want to put a rear view camera oem on their acura rl 2005. It work all u have to do is swap the navigation dvd with a 2006 navigation dvd. Radio & XM still works after swapping. I just finish testing it right now.

The acura rl oem kit is discontinued and nowhere to be found. The oem kit 08B21-SNB-B00 is for honda civic si that i ordered from Hongkong and still transit coming over here, i ordered it so that it can hold the camera but i still have no clue on how i can mount. Hoping to receive it this coming week. I'm still happy that its working on 2005 model where other's failed and nobody bother to swap the navigation dvd. I've read somewhere swapping the 05 navi to 06 navi will kill the radio, i'm still laughing until now for whoever said that.

I have finalized installing the camera on my 2005 acura rl. I used a 2007/2008 oem RL camera in ebay with wiring + the green plug to the navigation and use a xlr wire.

Can you elaborate on this process? Software needed? Where did it plug into?

The 06 navigation cost me $100 and the camera cost me $145 including the wiring and I added some xlr wire from navigation until to the trunk. I bought them at ebay.

hey! So how did you wire up the camera? I picked up a oem camera but I don't have the complete attachment kit and can't seem to figure out how to wire it up without the attachment kit. Thanks!

Adding a back up camera

i was wondering did anyone on here tried doing the DIY similar to the tsx diy but with a oem camera? I recently purchased a oem back up camera but it is missing the 6 pin connector.

So on page 10/12 I have #39 but I am missing the connector on #40 That would plug into the navi control unit, so i was wondering is there any other way to get it to work without this connector? Or which wire I can tap into?

Hi, sorry for Necro-ing the thread.

About to buy a '05 RL in that nice Opulant Blue Metallic. Was looking into the camera and Aux/Bluetooth situation on here.

So to get this setup on a '05 RL, I'd need the following?
08B21-SNB-B00 OEM camera Kit
The 06 Navigation DVD drive itself, not just put the 06 disk in my 05 NAV DVD drive
That camera trunk wire harness

I'm looking on ebay right now, the DVD drives either say a range of "05 06 07 08" or the ones that specifically say 06 are $200-300+
This 05 already has NAV but I'd still need to swap out the DVD Drives?

Can't seem to find a wire harness that matches up with the ebay screenshot you posted.
And where would be a good place to order that OEM kit?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm pretty technically inclined but still getting into the car stuff,

Okay did a lot more research.

If I'm correct, need the following:
39540-SJA-A310-M1 DVD drive
08B21-SJA-B00 Mounting Kit
08A21-6H2-360 Camera

All the websites I've seen so far say that the mounting kit is discontinued in the States, seems the cameras are getting hard to come by as well.
DVD drive seems pretty straight forward, but man the ebay prices are high. Though I guess I could flip the 05 one to compensate.
Friend gave me the contact info to someone in japan who might be able to ship me one from there though.

Yes u are correct at least u need an 06 dvd drive. Also about the camera i ended up using the 07/08 camera and ended up adding wires (xlr 3 pairs gray color on the pictures) to extend it . Dont bother purchasing the mounting kit since its not compatible from japan.

Hmm I see, what about the wiring harness? am I just splicing into the existing one on the "05 or would i still need the harness from another year?

So any suggestions if I can't get the mounting kit? I'd prefer the outside of the car looking as clean as i can get it, so need at least the camera housing for it.

Looking online, the cameras from other models of Acura around that time are easier to find, Am I wrong in thinking that these cameras would be usable as long as I have a Backup Cam capable DVD Drive and the wiring is still the same?

Get a 07/08 camera, there is one in eBay cost $65. All u need to do is add wire (xlr cable) and splice to the camera and as well the green plug that goes to the navigation dvd. U need to cut and use Dremel to mount the camera to look Oem as that what I did . The mounting kit and the camera add ons are for 06 but u need to relocate the switch to open the trunk. Mounting kits for the camera is hard to find.

That was sold. By the way, mine is 06 so I guess I dont need DVD drive. Where can I get green plug to navigation? can you post more detail how to splice wire from camera?
I also consider NavTool to go with after market camera.

I know is like 2 years late but...
I have followed the TSX DIY thread and it worked for me, no need to add a new DVD or anything; just what the guy stated on the DIY.

I have an Acura RL 2005 with Navi, no XM (I bought it in Mexico. I think the car comes from Canada)

You could use one of the molex connectors from the TSX Thread if the camera you bought doesn't have it, I'm pretty sure it will work
