protective film for fog lights
I have a 2006 RL with a cracked right front fog light lens. What is the best choice for lens protection? I'm getting the light replaced tomorrow at a dealer, and I want to protect the pair once the one is replaced.

You could also go to a local installer. The one I went to recently had three films he offers based on car, color, complexity of the curves, and application, etc. He offered the 3M, VentureShield and ClearShield films. He says prefers the Xpel patterns over those offered by VentureShield and ClearShield. Xpel pushes 3M film, but the rolls of bulk film from any manufacturer fit into the laser pattern cutter.
Fogs should be pretty inexpensive since they are only two ovals.

The second time I lost a fog lens to rock damage, I looked up XPel (which is a 3M product), found a local dealer and called them to verify they sell the "kits" (which are precut pieces from the big rolls they've got). When I got there, I discovered they have an even thicker, more beefy 3M film that's 40mil (XPel is 20) and I bought a scrap for ten dollars.
I then cut two nice ovals and installed it on my fogs using the same technique described on the XPel website (clean glass, heat film with blow dryer until it hurts to hold it, while heating glass with lights on, spray down glass with rubbing alcohol/water mix, slap that puppy on there and align it, squeegee it with a buff credit card and walk away). Voila'! Done and no issues since.

May I ask where you got that heavier material? I only want to do this once!

I honestly think the regular Xpel is enough but, like you, I was eager to make this "the last time".
