What camera are you going to use for the navtool? And any plans for headlights?

Picked up the Navtool from this auction, the list is $279, looking in the purchase history I saw one sold for $153, hence offered $150 and surprisingly the seller accepted it Ultra fast shipping too as I got it the next day. It looks a bit different than the pictures in the DIY, Heavy_RL wrote.

Camera is on its way, hopefully it will get here soon.

There must be a big markup on those NavTool units because I had basically the exact same thing happen. A company was selling them for like $250 or so shipped, an eBay top rated seller too. I did the Make an Offer thing and I think it was something like $150 and they accepted.

They are probably recouping their loses. Sometimes getting them out the door for invoice is better than them sitting on the shelves for nothing.

Their website still lists it at $400 with 10% off applied to bring down OTD price of $360. Whereas their ebay store sells it for $279 and I got it for $150 I am sure if someone is to offer less than that they'll probably accept it as well.

MrKev, i got the camera listed in the DIY thread by heavy_rl.

As far as headlights.

1) Probably a clear lens for the OEM low beam
2) Osram SVS bulbs
3) Clear diffusers, I have already contacted my sources in UK, germany and Japan, lets see what their search returns. I can easily get the headlights but I much rather find a shattered set at the local wrecker/junk yard.
4) My search for a company to have the trim pieces chrome coated is coming up short so far .
6) I thought about quad projectors as well, having had TL/ZKW and S2k quad projector set up in my 2G TL in the past, I decided against it. I drive a lot at night and quad projectors, especially quad projectors with razor sharp cut off, strain your eyes. There is just too much light below the cut off and nothing on the top. So your eyes strain out trying to constantly adjust between the light variation/difference. A good set of projectors with clear lenses and SVS bulbs is ample enough for my usage, it wont be quad projector output but still would be eons better than stock.

I wont start the headlight project till next spring.

So sort of good news. Source in UK returned back to me stating he cant find any wrecked Legends (RL) as they are not that common in the UK so the only way to get the diffusers is to buy brand new lights from the dealer, which is not happening.

Germany and Holland contact said pretty much the same thing, the only good thing is that the dealer in Holland is willing to ship the lights. It'd still cost me an arm and a leg.

Contact in Japan however has gotten back to me stating that he can get me new or used JDM headlights for a reasonable price, with the shipping etc it would be a hair less than 4 figures. Which may sound a lot but I can always swap the projectors with USDM ones as I have about 4 spare sets and sell my OEM ones

Installing the back up camera today, thanks again to Heavy_RL for all the help

Buddy from Japan called and said he got the headlights in as well, now starts the long wait as I asked him to mail them the cheapest way which can take up to 2 months, no worries as I dont intend on installing them till next spring.

Yay. Does this mean you now have a set of RL core headlights for those of us that would like custom work done?

There are a couple of issues with the RL trade in program.

1) Limited potential customers.
2) Huge deposit, usually for 3G TL customers I ask for a $300 refundable deposit as thats the most I'd have to pay if I'd have to get a replacement set, for 4G TL the deposit is $500. Unfrotuantly the RL headlights are not easy to come by and a used set goes for as much as 1000~1200 . This means that I'd have to ask a minimum deposit of $800, which is a lot, I understand, yet it still wont be enough to cover my ass in case there is anything wrong with the set that I get back from customers.
3) RL headlight spares are tough to come by, usually with 3G TL and 4G TL I can easily source internals, lenses, etc this means that if there is any damage to the returned headlights I'd be sh*t outta luck.

With all that being said, I'd shoot you a PM once my set is available to see if you are interested in the trade in, I might just start a thread as well.

BTW, Heavy asked me this question as well.

I know these JDM headlights are awesome etc but I think the clear diffuser look can be achieved by painting the OEM amber diffusers matte silver. I have done in the past and it looks great, you can still use the marker as light diffuses out of it at night because the layer of paint is very thin.

The JDM clear diffusers should be considered more of reflectors rather than diffusers as they are not as opaque as say the clear diffusers from the 3G TL etc.

Compare the above pictures to the following, this is a set I did a while back

05 RL headlights
Custom cut off shields
Clear lens swap
Phillips 85122+ bulbs swap
Painted amber diffusers (SSM)
Complete front lens restoration

Diffusers still let 50% light through.

Honestly, I don't even need them to be silver. I would be totally okay with them being tinted. I like the look of the clear markers but having to buy a set of JDM/EDM headlights is nowhere near worth the coin to me. I'd also be okay with paying that kind of a deposit if I want my headlights worked on. That's less money than I'd be losing by not going to work for a week if my car didn't have headlights.

Actually, if you just want the amber toned down, than this may be an option

dont mind the painted bezels

here is a side by side comparison picture, the actual diffuser is not tinted, the reflector behind it is painted high gloss black, this tones down the obnoxious amber and still reflects ample light for the side marker.

It happened to me once with my TL after my battery went dead, the issue took care of itself though after a couple of days .

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll post pictures when I get a chance, in the mean time any help resolving these two issues would be greatly appreciated.
