Aftermarket Battery won't fit
I recently bought a new battery to go into my 06 RL. I bought my car CPO two years ago... i have no idea if the battery in the car is from 2006 or if the dealer installed a new one when they CPO'd it... i'm betting it's the original battery from 2006.
My car still starts... but if you leave it parked for even a few minutes with the doors open, lights on, radio going - it dies and won't start. I almost got stranded a few nights ago.. luckily I was with family and I keep jumper cables in all my cars... so I jumped it and was ok...
so I head to my local costco... buy their battery and get home to install. it visually looks very similar to my stock battery - except it has a handle on it.
well when i went to install it - I realized it doesn't fit. first, the handle on the new battery gets in the way... now I could just cut it off... but there is anothe rproplbem.. the costco battery has RAISED covers on it for checking/adding distilled water.... while the Acura battery has a totally flush top.
the + terminal bracket on the car has a HUGE red plastic piece that is probably 3" x 3" or so... as a result, you need a large flush surface on the top of the battery to appropriately mount the terminals.
I gave up and put my stock battery back in. I"m now wondering if maybe I am stuck getting an OEM battery... i searched and found one thread where someone mentioned a similar problem and they just broke down and bought the Acura battery...
whcih i'm sure costs double the costco one... and i'm sure Acura will deny my warranty even though my battery is not 100 months old. my car was sold in july of 2006. so to April of 2012, that is just short of 6 years.. 72 months... so they shoud prorate it?
just curious if anyone has easily installed an afteramrtekt battery like one from Sears or Costco... i'm sure they are just as good...but apparently on our cars, it doesn't fit so well...
thanks.

I made this same thread 3 months ago. O'Reilly sells a flush top one. It does have a handle, but I just pushed mine down. I think I paid ~$110 after the core rebate.
I also learned through this trial that pulling the cap off of the terminal voids the battery returnability as it has become "used" regardless of actual use.

wow - I lucked out then because I went through that drill on my first battery change. They took it back even though I had installed it (well kind of installed since we know it does not fit right)

Here is my thread. https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-2005-2012-76/wtf-wrong-our-battery-teminal-844998/
I think the brand is GoldStart. 3 year full replacement and 6 year prorated.

I am on my third battery in 6 years w/ 44k miles. All Acura batteries, which I think are poor. But all were replaced within in 2 years use and covered under warranty / extended warranty.

Napa, I put in their high end one last month.
Flat top. Cut the handle off.
Fits perfectly.
(Paranoid about radio/nav codes I made an extension from my other car to keep the RL powered up during the change out)

Are you still trying to order a bride?
When you order, be sure to tell them to poke holes in the box, otherwise they arrive damaged with more than a headache. And do they also come with batteries?
Not that I have any personal experience or anything like that. Just read it somewhere.

Where is the OP? It's like we brought a little bit of Ramblings to the old folks home.

not to return this hilarious thread to anything on-topic, but I wanted to say that I just replaced my stock battery with an Optima Yellowtop D75/25. My local Acura stealership said the 2G RL uses a class 24 size battery. After comparing the sizes and seeing that Optima's configurator thingy said to put in a Redtop 25 battery, I ended up choosing the Yellowtop D75/25 due to its terminal layout (and the side terminals are there for extra grounding and/or audio stuff in the trunk).
The only incompatibility with using this particular Yellowtop is its just a few millimeters taller than it should be when using the included spacer installed on the bottom. This means the battery cover fits in 2 out of the three mounting spots, with the one in the front lefthand corner not seating correctly. However, seating the other two and locking the cover in place work just fine, and the hood closes perfectly.
I may remove the plastic OEM battery holder thing and just stick with the Optima spacer and OEM tie-downs. That literally just occurred to me. LOL
